Im pretty much a 50 guy and I know a lot of us are.

What is your absolute favorite 50mm lens and body combo?!

Spill it! Old or new kit all the same.

Leica M4-2 + Col. Summicron (Radioactive! wooh) old kit for me.

RF- 100mm F2.9 Anticomar, or 100mm F4.2 Anticomar, on Plaubel Makina IIIR or Makina II.

SLR- 150mm F2.8 Schneider Xenotar on Plaubel Makiflexes.

SLR- 150mm F5.6 Schneider Symmar chrome on Plaubel Makiflexes.

Leica M8 or M9 usually.

RF: Zeiss 5cm/1.5 (1938). A very sharp lens with overall beautiful character. Also 5cm/2
RF: original Nokton for the Prominent 50/1.5
RF: Rigid Summicron 50/2 and DR too
RF: Nikkor Millenium 50/1.4
RF: Ultron 50/2 for the Prominent
RF: Jupiter 3, Jupiter 8
RF: Elmar 50/2.8

RF: Canon 50/1.2 1.4 1.5
SLR: Canon FD 50/1.2L

The list is long .... all lenses mentioned here are superb lenses.

Jupiter-8 on a Bessa R2a is my favorite 50/RF combo.

My favorite SLR/50 combination is a Pentax K2 dmd and the SMC 50/f1.4

I don't really have a Fixed Lens favorite.

I forgot to list my Pentax M 50/1.4 in M mount and my SMC 50/1.4 for the Spotmatic F.

SLR
Rolleiflex SL35E/ Planar f/1.8

Rangefinder
Leica M6 / Summilux pre ASPH f/1.4

Just too simplistic. There are lots of great 50mm out there.

I've got a few iterations:
RF: my Leica M4 with DR Summicron.
SLR: my black nikon F2AS with 50mm f/1.2 Ai.
For nostalgia: Pentax Spotmatic with Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 50mm f/1.4.
That which I lust: Voigtlander Prominent II with 50mm Nokton.
Close second in the RF category: Nikon SP with 5cm f/1.4.
Phil Forrest

Leica IIIf and Canon 50mm f/1.8 in S-mount
Leica MP and 50mm f/1.4 Summilux-M ASPH
Pentax SPF and SMCT 55mm f/1.2
Nikon F3P and Ai-S 50mm f/1.2

Funny... I just realized that I don't have a 50mm for my digital bodies

I like the combo of IIIf and Elmar 50mm f3.5. I read someplace in around 1964-5 that Leica struggled with the switching from the Barnack film loading system to the M model loading system because they were concerned about consistent film flatness. I feel that there is something to this worry. Maybe the M models are great with film flatness but the Barnack bodies are excellent in this regard.

Anyone else ever hear of this concern?

I also like the Pentax Spotmatic and the version 2 50mm f1.4.

Not a 50-guy, but I do enjoy using the focal length on special occasions :)

50/3.5 Anastigmat on Series-0 (fixed lens, scale focusing)

50/2 Rigid Summicron on M3

Nikon F3/FE2/FM2/FM3A with 50/1.8 Long-nose (AIS version for street, or AI (long throw) if I want slow and precise)

ZI with ZM Planar or ZM Sonnar

D800e with Sigma ART 50/1.4

Fuji X-T2 with 50/2.0 (if we're talking focal length) or 35/2.0 (if we're talking similar AOV)

SLR: Pentax SL and 50mm f/1.4 Super-Multi-Coated Takumar

Rangefinder: Leica MP and Voigtländer 50mm f/2.5 Color Skopar (despite the lousy aperture ring, it has a great, Konica-esque rendering with smooth bokeh)

OM4: OM Zuiko 50/1.4 (I wouldn't mind trying the 50/1.2)
Barnack: probably the collapsible Summicron 5cm but the J8 is also very good, also the Canon 50/1.8 LTM. If I want sharpness the Industar 61 is hard to beat.
Topcon RE Super: Topcor 58/1.4
Nikon F: early Nikkor 5cm f/2 with nine aperture blades
Pentax K: Pentax-M 50/1.4 but I haven't any others to compare. If I had M42 I'd go for the 8 element 50/1.4
Canon: I prefer the EF40/2.8 pancake STM to the EF50/1.4. Kostya's 50L sounds better.
Fixed: the R35S only comes with a 40/2.8 bit it's a beauty. The Yashinon 45/1.7 on the Electro 35 is a great lens but I and the camera don't share any karma.

Been having a lot of fun with this:
208225.jpeg

Nikon 50/1.4 AF-D
Nikon D600
Nikon N75

The Nikon 50/1.4 AF-D transmits more light to the sensor than the Canon 50/1.2 per DXO's t-stop value rating (as I've mentioned before) and any other 50/1.4 I know of. 1.4 = 1.4. It's "the poor man's" 1.2. The D600 is a sick value if you're willing to roll the dice on the oil spot issue. I have two. No issues. The N75 is an amazing value. Vastly underraded because it's a "plastic consumer camera" as positioned by Nikon. Meanwhile, it's a sophisticated little (and I do mean little -- and light) beast. Don't care what anyone says, it's a fantastic camera.
