So what else is there to do on a hot, humid, hazy, sultry day in The Deep South? No mint juleps or secret recipe sweet tea today... I need to get busy on those!
But today I came across an old family photo from 1971 and my 62 Bug was in the background... Great memories!
I don't know how to do a poll but it matters not. I have a major job ahead cleaning out a closet to get to my archived photos. So in the meantime, can you guys post your own VW Beetle or Transporter?

At VA Beach, so no. But I did have the camper version of the transporter, 72 version, the first year they went to the dual carbs. Bit of a pain until I learned to sync them. Hopefully other will have some before I get back home.

This is not mine. I have owned quite a few VWs. My favorite was my 1957 oval window.

My first car...a 1969 VW Beetle...still have it...has a 2017 racing engine and tricked out close-ratio tranny...front disc brakes...front/rear heavy duty sway bars...half-cage rollbar, Corbeau racing seats with five point harness...set up for street racing when I was so much younger and I did a lot of racing back then...

In 1973 I had a repair shop called 67 VW. Why? I only worked 1967 VW's. Why? First year VW went to a more reliable 12 volt electrical system and the last for real metal interiors, plus in 68 they added all that crappy emissions stuff. 1967 the perfect VW storm. Had them all including the very rare 67 double can pickup. Heady days. 67 VW and Nikon F.

Had a snobby girlfriend from the east coast who put up a huge fuss when I tried to buy a black split window Corvette.
She literally made me buy a VW bus, which sadly was the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned.
I used to leave it unlocked hoping someone would steal it. No brakes, no heat, no power, and blew around like a sailboat in a hurricane on the highway.
Girlfriends are swell, but a 1963 Corvette Split Window is forever.

My dad had a 1970 VW Van...took my driving test in it...pulled that engine more times than I can remember...couldn't even tell you how many times we pulled it, rebuilt it or just replaced it...soooo many miles and just as many memories...
It was underpowered, would over heat and blow all over the road but it was the funnest car to drive...one of the main reasons I got my Beetle...I already knew how to pull and rebuild the motor...

Here's my first bug, "Buddy the Wonderbug", a 1971, was sitting rotting in a field for a decade before I pulled it out the summer of 1991.
Spent a couple of weeks rebuilding it in my sister's garage.
Gave my niece a chance to drive it before I took it off to graduate school.
Great little cars.

Took my driver's exam in my brother's '61. Owned a 67 Squareback, 67 bus, then I forget---so many beetles, another bus, some Rabbits, a Golf or two. My whole family was VW until my parents bought their last car, a Volvo, and that marked the end of that. Now we have a Toyota Yaris--sort of a Japanese beetle.

Time to revive this thread for two reasons:
1. Some images disappeared! Just when I am looking for VW car shows close by to visit... and
2. I think I will start saving right now.... THIS is my dream fulfilled. And electric too???

This thread reminds me that I need to find the few photos I have of my old 1967 Baja Bug. It was the first car I really bought. I only had the care for two years but it was so much fun. Oh my. It had way more power to weight than was responsible for me at the time. The pan and shell were the only sheet metal on the car. The rest was a fiberglass Baja kit that made the bug very light. The Motor was a really hot 1641cc built by Shamrock Racing. Someone before me grafted in a tranny from a VW bus for the low end gearing and that car could scoot! I could almost pop a wheelie in it. The front end would completely unweight but the wheels wouldn't come off the ground. Super heavy three puck clutch which probably caused my left calf to get visibly more muscular.
Man, I have stories of that car and various and sundry 19-20 year old misbehavior.
It was the first of a long history of buying, fixing, driving, selling cars. My current 1972 Benz is #16.
I need more, of course.

Not mine, but a girl's that drives it every day. I see her at the coffee shop. I took this photo about 3 weeks ago with my IIIf and Neopan Acros 100:

Thanks for reviving it otherwise I would never have read this:
