Your Volkswagen Beetle or Transporter

I bought a '65 beetle used in 1969. It was not a happy relationship. Many mechanical problems leading to an early demise.

My wife owned one too. It caught fire and burned to the ground. Problems with the wiring.

Almost everyone had better luck with theirs than we did. Go figure.

Some friends and my '67 bus. Magic Bus.

Shortly after this I took out the middle seat to make it nicer to "do things" in. Life was good.

It is fair to say, as someone did above, that they had no heat, no power, no brakes and blew all over the road every time a semi or a stiff wind went by. But, still, it's one of about 5 cars I wish I had never sold, and not because of the money they bring now. Just a joy in its own strange way.

This is wonderful! I would give anything to have a bus like that right now as it finally fits my life. Heh, I would take my 62 Bug in a heartbeat, too! I drove that little Gulf Blue beetle everywhere! What fun, enduring memories...

Hey, what was that red parking permit decal for?

Tim, thanks for those photos! I love looking at the hard work and passion going into these classic cars!
 
Not that long ago, one could not drive to the local grocery store without seeing a Beetle, a bus, or a Karmann Ghia everywhere. Even now, I see very nice mint bugs around during the week.

They are still iconic and charming in their own way. With the contemporary move to alternative fuels, especially electric, I am watching with interest where the small commuter/short range vehicle market is going. It seems that Smart cars are only electric nowadays and Volvo has recently stated that every car they make will be electric in a couple of years.

An electric micro bus with a nearly 300 mile range appeals to me but... what are the unplanned consequences? There are down sides to everything.

I am not convinced that autonomous cars are wise. Not at all, not in my lifetime.
 
Shot this Beetle in San Cristobal de las casas in Chiapas Mexico last year.
They are still very common in the country in various states from impeccable to quite rotten away but still going.
