Zeiss 35/2 pics

Howdy,

I'm a digital newbie as regards uploading pics to share on the forum. Last night I managed to get some scans uploaded into "Gallery" and presumably "My Photos". There are 5 slides there now - can interested parties access them, or do I need to attach them using the "Attachments" button when I post?

FYI, the scan originals were 5 meg files made by a local photo house. I could have chosen to have 18 meg scans made, but didn't think there'd be any advantage for the 1 meg uploads.

This is the 1st time I've had scans made from slides. I must say I'm disappointed in the image resolution on the monitor- the uploads do not show anything like the sharpness I was hoping to represent. Shot at f/4, there are some DOF issues in the slides (my bad) but the originals are still razor sharp through a well corrected 10X magnifier. Anybody care to comment?

Hi,

I'm not an expert, but have used and scanned slides in the past.

1. The images are visible and seem sharp and interesting, but can probably be scanned better.
2. Scans from slides (having narrower exposure lattitudes) do not fill-in shadows as well (usually) and tend to be too contrasty.
3. Scans from the the "One hour" labs can have large files, but do not have very good scans, since scanning has to be individualised to produce good scans, and they do not do that.

Metrolab processing house in Birminham offer a High Res scanning servive. I use it and find it Ok with a very fast turnround and great packing - try it
