Just picked up a Zeiss Contax IIIa w/50mm f2.0 lens. I had an old 40.5mm cap which works. Does it take the 40.5mm filter from B+W or any other manufacturer? Does the collapsible B+W rubber hood screw in and not cover the viewfinder? Or, is another shade preferable? I tried my Leica shade which clips on but does not hold.

The lens accepts just about any 40.5 mm filter. I have used filters from a variety of makers, and have experienced no problems. Can't speak to the B&W collapsible hood.

You can get a vented hood from any of the usual vendors on an auction site. I lucked into a set of Nikon filters one day, so keep in mind that other camera manufacturers used the 40.5mm filter (I've got three cameras now with that same size).

Ditto. The official Zeiss Ikon hoods (postwar model #s 1119 & 1115) were actually pretty big & block a significant part of the VF. They're also expensive compared to the generic vented hoods you can get on eBay for a pittance.
