Zeiss and their wonderful lenses.... and the 21mm....

Seele's note was very informative, particularly as it relates to Tomioka. I recently received from another RFF'er a Taron 35, which has a Tomioka Lausar 45/2.8, probably a Tessar design. I am very impressed with the results from this lens. I just Google'd Tomioka and found out they were acquired by Yashica in the late '60s -- and thus they became part of the Kyocera empire, which began making the Carl Zeiss lenses under license in the 1970s.

I gather Tomioka had a good reputation as a lensmaker, so perhaps it's no surprise their expertise was deemed worthy of a Zeiss license (and later, perhaps their skill was evident in the licensed Carl Zeiss lenses).
