Zeiss Digital

that would be nice. ziess have made it quite clear that they would be interested when a FF dRF becomes viable. i hope nikon comes to the party too.

I'd love to see one. A Contax G2 user for 10+ years, I was disappointed that a G2D never came about...those Zeiss G lenses are superb. Now a ZI user, I 'll wait and see. 🙂

I remain hopeful that sooner or later Zeiss' link with Sony, or their new ZE lens agreement will prove fruitful in this area (or Nikon for that matter). Zeiss stated some time ago that they viewed full 35mm frame and image quality matching or exceeding film to be necessities. Hopefully they also mean it when they talk of protecting their customers long term interests and so wait until they do not need to sell a new model every two years on an incessant upgrade path.

Since Zeiss has had a long relationship with sony in their digital ventures and vice versa not to mention sony took over konica minolta which is two companies that joined and both have a legacy of rangefinder cameras and lenses, is it such a stretch? I still think that sony is a company that is willing to take a few risks in designs and new technologies. Just look at the new Alpha 900, maybe its not as good as a 1DS Mark3 but look how much it does for its price and all the interesting things they have tried with that camera, many big risks and big steps.

One can only hope!

Even if they don't bring out a digital Ikon RF, that A900 is the best looking DSLR I've seen. Reasonable price, decent eye relief, full frame and sensor shift. I've not been tempted by any of canon's or nikon's recent offerings, but this looks pretty sweet for an SLR.

don't know about the name dIkon. Sounds too much like that pale Japanese radish, the diakon (at least in USA).

Ha, actually, I just realised I have no idea how you're meant to pronounce this name. I've only read it, never heard it uttered, and just assumed it was pronounced Ickon. Guess not. Is it actually pronounced Icon (or eye-con)? Ha, well that lame attempt at a joke was even lamer than I first thought.

the first reviews ( not previews ) of the A900 are out and they're surprised at the noise from iso200. seems too much pixels in a FF.

a Dikon with this sensor ? thinking twice.....

There have been threads on pronunciation of the name IKON in the past- usually eye-kon in English, but ee-kon in German. Same situation with NIKON. OTOH, the ZI Radish would be a memorable name. Not a good name, but memorable
