Zeiss no longer lists the Sonnar 85/2 on their website at all:

Though I must admit the lens always looked out of place on a rangefinder, it's a sad state of affairs to discontinue a flagship lens like this only a couple of years after it's introduced.

Will the ZM Distagon 15/2.8 be next?? (the other made-in-Germany ZM lens from Zeiss).

I suppose the 85/4 will be slightly better than my CV 75/2.5, but that is not enough to buy one: for me it's to slow. I'm still waiting for an 85/2.8 to complete my ZM lineup.

The choice to start with an unobtainable-for-most 85/2 and later add a slow 85/4 was very odd. An 85/2.8 would be a great not-too-big/not-too-small companion to the ZM 35s.

It already was.

There's a f4 Tele-Tessar at my local shop, and I've been thinking, thinking, thinking. But would it be 'better' than my CV 75/2.5 Heliar or Leica 75mm Summarit?

Better than your summarit? If your summarit is anything like mine, who needs better for its speed and FL? It is incredible. And you'd lose a stop with the f4 Tessar for a lens that is no smaller. its a no brainer to me.

Yeah, you're right. The Summarit is a gorgeous lens. I just get a bit of gear craving from time to time, especially when something appears to be either a good deal, or hardish to get.
