What I cannot believe is that Zeiss does not have a way to update their lenses in the field..this is stupid in this day and age. Quote from Zeiss website..
"Updating the firmware:
Please send your lens to ZEISS for firmware upgrading. It is not possible to perform this update yourself with a firmware download.
Please pack your lens carefully and send it together with a completed copy of our delivery note to the ZEISS Service address nearest to you. Please note that we can only process your order when it is accompanied by a correctly completed delivery note."
Sony uses an app to install their fw updates from the computer via USB connection.. But Fuji does it via sd card. Sigma has a USB Dock to handle not only af micro adjustments but also fw updates! When a camera path is not available. I wonder if Sony and/or Fuji is not playing nice w/ Zeiss or is this is just a rather stupid policy/design where the flash chip inside the lens can only be updated via an external station (very old school btw).
This is the sigma solution..where they are not allowed to use the camera body as a download path for the firmware update. While it is not free, 59 dollars is not a bad price to pay vs sending the lens back to the factory for the firmware update. Especially when u consider the wait time and possible damage during transit.
