I took today some photos in the Farmer's Market in Pensacola. The lens is fixed at f8, and I tried to get some "street shots" as we walked among the people there.

I really enjoy using this lens. I converted the DNG images to B&W in Perfect Effects 9, picking Tri-X 400 as the "film". I used the gradated ND filter in all shots. I pushed the ISO up from the regular 200 to 800~1000 due to the lens aperture and the filter use.

It seems you enjoy to use this lens! And in a ...freewheel style!

Love the first photo with the dramatic sky, the second because of the musicians (the man playing guitar seems to have a difficult chord to play LOL) and the last one, the security man makes it interesting!

Thank you Robert. It is a change for me to use the Hologon. I usually pick the pre-asph Summilux 35/1.4. I may switch back to the Lux soon.

Well, there is quite a difference in coverage between the 35mm lens and the Hologon (I do like the pre-ASPH Summilux)! I like your Hologon shots. They don't seem to show the oddities of perspective that often accompany extreme wide angle shots, no doubt due to your selection of framing and camera angles.

I've been doing my extreme wide angle shots with my Nikons in recent times, using either my 15mm f/3.5 Nikkor or 17-35mm Nikkor. Eventually I might get another 15mm CV for the Leicas. I wonder how one goes about choosing between the CV or the Hologon?

Thanks Rob.

The CV is most likely a modern design lens and its rear element may work well with digital M cameras. When you use film, the Hologon shines. the CV 15mm III seems to be praised a lot. The Hologon has no distortion in its images if you use this lens correctly. It is a very unique lens. The images posted here were taken quickly as I was walking among the people in the farmers market.

Nice work with the Hologon!

I had one of these lenses way back when I had the Contax G2 kit. Terrific performer if not the easiest lens to use. I replaced it with the CV 15mm I back then, when I moved back to Leica M-mount. Later, I got the Leica Super-Elmar-R 15mm for use with the SL, and even later I got the CV HyperWide 10mm f/5.6 to get the same FoV on the CL.

It always takes me a day's shooting to restore that wide-sense to my eyes*and mind. 😉

I have identified three factors that I pay attention to when using the Hologon.
1. Move very close to any person you want to include.
2. Increase the ISO for less camera shake.
3. Find an evenly lit scene.

Thank you Helen. It forces me to consider B&W images because of vignetting and a purple smear with digital M cameras. I am growing fond of using this lens with the M10. It has a smaller effect with its sensor than with the M9 in which the purple smear is on both sides of each image while it is only bad on the right side of each image with the M10. It seems that with the M10 that I can use this lens without too many issues.

Thank you.

I found a like new lens in Zeiss G mount, and then I mailed it to DAG for a professional conversion to M. It comes in a box with a gradated ND filter that corrects most of the vigneting but it makes the lens effectively have aperture f16.

It is very good with color when using a film camera. I use it with my M3. It does not perform well with a digital M. There is a purple smear on the sides of each image, plus dark vignetting. The rear glass elements are too close to the sensor. It works "OK" with the M8 due to the 33% crop.
