Hi, this is the first time I post here, and I am also new to rangefinder cameras. I have a question about focusing on Zeiss Ikon.

My Zeiss Ikon seems to work great until this afternoon, when I put my newly acquired voigtlander 35mm/2.5 classic (LTM) with an adapter to it. I found that I cannot focus at infinity, and the lens is not coupled for anything under around 1 meter.....(the image in the patch does not move). Moreover, the lens can move slightly up and down when mounted on the camera. (the lens is screwed tightly on the adapter.)

I was surprised, so I mounted my ZM 50mm/2 Planar on the camera, and it is also not coupled from 0.7m to about 1m....😱

Is the rangefinder on my Ikon destroyed by the cheap adapter I bought on ebay??? is it an alignment problem???

p.s. (I also tried the VC 35mm with adapter on my M6, the lens seems to focus properly at infinity, but the lens is uncoupled from 0.7m to about 0.8m)

Any help would be appreciated🙂 Thank you....
Hope it won't cost too much to repair...:bang:

No, I think zeiss ikon can't focus nearer than 1m , but lenses can (just in case they where mounted on a camera that can close focus 😉 )

You can not focus to infiny means it is a bad adapter , not slim enought. But it won't damage your camera, If you have a M6, a planar, a 35 and a zeiss, you should be able to afford in an official voigt or leica adapter 😱

BTW, color skopar is a fantastic lense

Infinity on the ZI means something that is really very far away. A couple of kilometers at least. Or the moon at night. This question is often raised here.
I do not know what to say about the problem with the planar at close focus distance. Normally the ZI body should allow focus down to 0.7m on lenses that permit this range. Was your planar focusing down to 0.7 before the adapter event?
Why buy a cheap adapter anyway?

My planar can focus down to .7m before the adapter event, that's why I assume the adapter damaged my ZI...

I checked focus at infinity on a tree a few hundred yards away...I guess that's not far enough. I live in Seattle....so I can see the moon only about once a month in winter, it's overcast everyday 🙁

should have bought a better adapter...

So I think my ZI's rangefinder is damaged AND the alignment is off???? 🙁

VC 35mm color skopar 2.5 classic

This is my first post to the forum having been lurking for a while, hello everyone!. I am too interested in the answer to this problem as I'm seriously considering buying a Zeiss Ikon with the VC 35mm color skopar 2.5 classic. Can anyone advise of their experience with this combination, i.e with the correct adaptor does the rangefinder focussing work as expected, i.e coupled correctly from 0.7m to infinity. Any other observations regarding this combination would be very welcome.
