Zeiss Ikon Hits The Floor--Hard!

Since the M3 is 0.92, do you approximate the framing by using the whole viewfinder? Been wondering about this for a while.

Yes the M3 is 0.92, and I have a 1.25 Leica magnifier on it as well, so I can keep both eyes open when focusing. The focusing is very fast, with surgical percision. I also have a 35mm external viewfinder mounted on the top to help with composing. When I stop the 35 Nokton down is when I use the external viewfinder, but when I shoot it wide open, I just shoot. Here is an example below of just shooting wide open.

I forgot to add. My friend no longer wants a ZI because I dropped it. He believes the Leica would have survived that fall with no ill effects. He's now thinking about getting the M6 as opposed to the ZI.
If he seriously considers that, tell him to drop it just to try it out.

I can tell you one thing, when the ZI comes back, I will use a neck strap from now on!

Wow Joe, you're really a brave guy walking with a such expensive piece of equipment without a strap... :D

Best wishes for your Ikon, though ! Hope to be in the club soon!

last dec on my honeymoon, dropped my R2a from around 5 feet onto the nice asphalt road in downtown tokyo....

Trouble was, i had the trigger winder, double hotshoe with the 12mm's VF and spirit level mounted which made the camera a heck of a lot heavier.

Camera landed on the top right hand corner and created a 1cm ding/paint loss, and also chipped out a piece of the road.. (i'm serious!!)

But yeah, the RF was vertically off by around 3-4 feet.

Soooo, as the new wife wouldn't let me purchase a new RF as a replacement,(they sold hexars down at the store by the train station, MAP camera for those who know it.) I logged on at the nearest wi-fi spot, got instructions and pryed open the top of my R2a to alighn the RF.

It's really not that difficult, and from what i read, the insides of the R2a/3a and the Ikon are around 80% similar with the vert alignmt screw visible from the hotshoe opening.

my 2 cents... =)

Hi Joe,

sorry for the misunderstanding, I thought you had no strap (neck or wrist) at all.. At first I hadn't noticed in your post
I hope you will be back shooting happily soon !
