Zeiss Ikon Items out of Stock

Maybe they are following the Leica model of undersupplying? 🙂
My real sense is that they probably made them in batches and the last batch was dwindling, earthquake was the knockout blow.

NEX & Co most probably (judging from the steadily increasing amount of photos taken with cameras of that kind and adapted M-mount lenses ....)

EDIT: I bought my ZM 50/2.0 NOS two weeks ago and the ZM 28/2.8 about one week ago from shops here in Japan and there were plenty of ZM lenses still available, for reasonable prices.

When you have 10 apples for sale and someone in America buys 4 apples and then someone in Japan buys 6 apples you will then have 0 apples.

Well true, what I meant was that if ZM is out of stock at most places and if one really want a ZM item, then there are enough seller who ship from Japan so it should still not be such a great problem to buy a ZM lens ... 🙂

Out of stock in the US as in Adorama B&H ect ect. but apparently ebay stores in hong kong have 30? haha i think not. I bet if i bought one from there they would be out of stock

After calling around to every big store in the US I could find, (B&H, Adorama, Tamarkin, plus many others), I bought my C-Sonnar from eBay, from Hong Kong. It cost a little more ($1220), but I received it within a few days. So somehow, they do continue to have stock.

About 4-5 weeks ago when I was looking for a Planar 50/2 and I didn't have any problems finding one in stock. Checked with Robert White in UK first, they had one in silver. Then checked with Ffordes (also in UK) and they had one both in silver and black. I ordered the black one.

I suppose it depends what you want to buy or I just got lucky 🙂 Ffordes is a nice store, great support.

Supply seems to be trickling into B&H again. The 'in stock' tag is appearing now.

Strange, but I was recently able to buy a brand new ZM 28/2.8 from a seller on evilBay for $60 less than B&H with no issues. But the big stores don't have much inventory of anything.

Poor Navigation to ZM Lenses

Poor Navigation to ZM Lenses

Zeiss has changed their web site. There's not an evident link to their ZM lenses starting from the main page. I'm not sure if this indicates anything about their production plans. I hope it doesn't mean a decision to stop making them. By searching from Google, I found the page listing the Zeiss Ikon camera and ZM lenses. So, at least they haven't eliminated it. But it no longer includes photos of the lenses, just the specifications and a very small drawing of the lens.

You do not have to go through google, just follow their photography path form their main page which is under Solutions->Photography->Lenses for Photography, cinematotragphy ... ->Photography->ZeissIkon System

More detailed information and better images about the lenses can be found in their lens shop.

Zeiss makes a lot of stuff and the ZM system is only a very small part of it, why should it be more prominent on their web site than any other stuff they do. I am pretty sure that the ZM line of products is a very niche market for them.

Cheers
Ruediger
