I haven't been posting much.. haven't been shooting much either :( but I was surfing over at Harry's Pro Shop and I noted that Brian is now carrying Zeiss Ikon gear.

So if you're local to me and want somewhere local to buy (not that Tony can't deliver.. I bought my 35mm Biogon from Tony and was more than pleased!! :D) then take a look at Brian's prices and such.

I'm not affiliated with Harry's but I do know that there's no where local for us Canucks and Torontonians to buy the Zeiss gear.

Cheers
Dave

Slight correction Dave; Rob Skeoch runs www.bigcameraworkshops.com from his home in Burlington. GTA, not quite Toronto, & it’s not a store where you can go in and fondle. However, I got a C/V 25mm viewfinder from him - to replace the one I had dropped. He emailed me on the day he got it from the distributor, said he would put it in the mail that day, & I got it on the following day. Canada Post. Amazing, eh? He sells both Cosina Voigtländer & Zeiss (& obviously large format). Don’t look at his workshops unless you want to be drawn into LF photography.
No connection other than a pleasant way to purchase.

cheers,

Guy

Zeiss is only selling direct so it's probably grey market.

oh.. no doubt.. Brian from Harry's never claims to carry non-grey market stuff.
The same goes for his Leica gear as well.
Lens wise, I wouldn't care too much - bodies might be a different story.

That's not my understanding. That was only the case temporarily during the transition from Hasselblad distributorship to Zeiss as its own distributor. In fact, I believe that they are expanding their retail outlets.

Brian at Harry's Pro is great - no doubt about it. I've dealt with him many times for both new and used equipment.
Recently, however, i tried Stephen Gandy at Camera Quest. Great service and much better prices than even Harry's Pro.
Examples - I bought a Voigtlander 50mm 2.5 Color Skopar from Camera Quest for a total of $394 Cdn. (incl. shipping + Canada Customs + brokerage) - at Harry's this would have cost me $489 Cdn. (incl. tax). I also bought a VC Meter II for $259 Cdn (incl. shipping, Canada Customs + brokerage) - at Harry's this would have cost $307 Cdn. (incl. tax). Significant savings.
Unfortunately, CQ doesn't sell Zeiss anymore.
Way to save yourself a few sheckles and support the U.S. economy instead of our own!
You're happy with the service at Harry's but you won't show your support by shopping there anymore? No wonder we get posts like this now:

It's sad when the bottom line takes precedence over supporting your local businesses.

Hey guys I'm not selling gray market....

I'm one of only a couple Zeiss dealers in Canada. I buy my stuff from Richard at Zeiss USA and it comes with the same North American warranty as everyone else who buys from the him. I'm an authorized Zeiss Dealer in Canada.

I've placed my first two orders and expect to be getting the first stock any day now. I have my prices posted on my website. One of the sales was for the new 21mm F4.5 which is coming out in a few weeks.

You can see my ad in May's PhotoLife magazine for the Zeiss gear, it's a small ad in the back but it's a start.... I've also got a Zeiss ad in the back page of the new Photosho magazine that just came out... and will have an ad in Newsview's, a publication that goes to all the news photographers and newspaper photo departments in the country. The only reason I mention all this is to say I'm doing what I can to have the stock available and promote the rangefinders in Canada.... I don't see anyone else doing it.

I'm also selling the Bessa equipment in Canada and I get it from the Canadian distributor. Since their wholesale price is rather high, and I want to be competitive with the USA sellers, I move the Bessa gear at a very small markup. I think I'm competitive with the USA prices on the Bessa gear considering it's already in the country and there are no broker fees. I'm sure I have the best prices on the Bessa stuff in Canada and am the only place I know of who is promoting the line.

As for Brian from Harry's Pro Shop, I can't speak or answer for him, but I have bought 4 or 5 Leica's from him in the past and maybe a dozen lenses over the years. We've always gotten along and treated each other fairly.

So hey, why not buy local because I'm trying to keep this thing alive.

As far as my store goes, I'm having a new workshop centre built in north Burlington, it should be ready at the end of May and I will be selling and showing my retail gear from the workshop centre..... and it's true I have a lot of large format in stock if your looking for a new Ebony 8x10 or a couple boxes of in-stock 12x20 film. I'm sure there's nowhere else in the Country that has that in stock.
