The January issue of the Japanese photography magazine, "Asahi Camera," includes an article which reports the results of lens tests with four of the new Zeiss lenses. Apparently these were not lab tests with MTF charts & shots of newsprint but real world photographs evaluated by the author of the article. A poster on photo.net was kind enough to post a summary of the highlights. Here is the link:

Sure looks like it may be time to set up a separate Zeiss Ikon forum. ;)

Okay, those who wants a user R2 + 35/2.5 + 75/2.5, hands up! I need to raise funds! :bang:

Gosh, Zeiss Ikon body and several lenses sounds ever more likely in my future!

What are you buying Kris? Did you read Sean's review of lens performance on the R-D1? The CV lenses held up pretty well.

Ralph, honestly I'm more towards getting the ZI body rather than ZI lenses. GAS is the major reason, R2 short RF baselength is another. Careful focusing 75/2.5 means taking more time but those people in my street shots (read girls :D) won't wait for me to carefully focus on them.

ZI body + 35/2.0 (or 50/2.0) + 85/2.0 looks very very tempting :bang:

Darrel, you're not serious, right?

And the worst part is, there is no cure for GAS nor those who suffers from it want to be cured! :bang:

There is a "Pull my finger" joke in here somewhere, but far be from me....

Gear Acquisition Syndrome

it's painful, contagious and i think oscar started it!

hey c'mon ! after all... you know you like it.

:p

and it was Brian, sometimes at night my dreams get interrupted by a loud voice 'OSCAR GRAB IT SOON !!!'

then I suddenly wake up, sweating, and jump to boot the computer and start checking eB@y...

...

and for not being completely OT, I'd say that I've been a bit disconnected from the ZI thing for a while... if only they would make these new lenses in screw mount :bang:

Well, are the lenses AVAILABLE? They are talking about them so long that I can hardly beleive they exist... :)

M, Hasselblad-USA doesn't know much more than you or I. They were told to expect them in December. Now they are being told to expect them in January. Nothing more firm than that. My hope is that the delay is caused by Zeiss Quality Control insisting on tight tolerances & high standards, but it could just be that Cosina has bitten off too much between Zeis & its own new cameras.

Since you are in Germany, I wonder if you can get anything more concrete from Zeiss itself?

@Huck: Zeiss says the sales are through Hasselblad dealers. But they don't know anything as well. In the meanwhile I received a brochure... must be a secret project :)

M, when I called Hasselblad they asked me if I had been in touch with a Hasselblad dealer who is carryint the ZI because not all Hasselblad dealers are carrying it - just to make things even more confusing. Hmmm Designed by Zeiss, built by Cosina, distributed by Hasselblad, sold by . . . some of their dealers. Well, my hopes for something soon were buoyed when I saw that B&H has finally set up a page for Zeiss lenses in its Rangefinder section. Of course it's blank.

Oops, I checked back this morning to see if B&H posted anything on the page. And the page is gone! I must have been dreaming last night. :bang:
