Zeiss Lenses on Cosina Website

I just visited Cosina website and was surprised to see they now have Zeiss corner on their website.

Anyway, they have technical specs data for the new Zeiss lenses including MTFs. Comparing Zeiss' 50/2 to Summicron based only on MTF charts, looks like Zeiss lens wins by a hair. The sagital and tangential lines are much closer to each other on Zeiss' MTF. Zeiss Biogon 35/2 has even better resolution and virtually zero distortion.

Not that I need all that resolution but still interesting. Now I can't wait to see photo postings taken with these new lenses to see more of their characters.

I think my wallet is not going to like this. :bang:

Kris, the Zeiss section of the Cosina website has been up for about a month now. Fun to visit, isn't it? I know the feeling. . . I'm looking to add a 28 & the Zeiss looks great, but then I read Voigtlander reviews & ask myself why I should pay twice as much. I wish that someone posted MTF charts on CV lenses somewhere to help with my decision. Oh, well . . .

Just as interesting are the prices. Because they are a partner with Zeiss in this enterprise, Cosina is the official distributor in Japan . . . but nowhere else. Prices from a US mail order dealer were recently posted on the internet. His reported prices run between $100 - $175 higher than Cosina's posted Japanese prices (after conversion to US dollars). If these prices hold up when the goods hit the streets, it should make the grey market very interesting indeed.

Just wait until those lenses will be available, the Dollar conversion rates will be adjusted then.

October 23d I payed 0.86 Euro for one Dollar, yesterday I got 72 Euro for my remaining 100 Dollars :-(
I should have invested in Cohibas when I stillhad the chance!

I prefer MonteCristos myself...

But right now the NZ$ vs. the US$ is stupid. Normally you get $0.55US for $1NZ. Right now we're getting closer to $0.70US to a $1NZ! I foresee a purge of "Stuff" to get a M4-P while it's still "cheap".

Stu :)
