How is the ZM 50 F1.5 @ F2 compared to the ZM 50 F2 wide open?
If it is on par, I might trade up, sell my 50/2.
I have the ZM 50 F1.5, and it is currently my most used lens. However, I have given some thought to buying the Planar in addition to the Sonnar. Regardless of whether it is optimized for 1.5 or 2.8 there are focus shift issues somewhere along the aperture continuum. And I think the look of the sonnar stopped down and is not, for better or worse, the same as a non-sonnar lens. That is, from what I've seen from pictures posted, the Planar generally gives a more modern look.
I'd like to hear from people who have and use both. Or people who did, but gave up the Planar and just kept the Sonnar.

Me too, I love the little Planar, perfect size, weight, look, etc but a hair slow in the lowest of light. I am not too keen on focus shift, but is it honestly as much of a problem on a film camera, the only one this lens would live on?

Hijacking this thread a bit.
BH has raised the 50 planar to $860, as opposed to $781 before. (Sonnar prices are up too).
Was there news of price increase for zeiss lenses? Or is this more driven by market demand?
Popflash has them at the 'old' price.

Sonnar is a specialty lens, Planar is a better Summicron. If you want a lens with some character at wider apertures, and not clinical, but still reasonably sharp and consistent, you want the pre asph Summilux.

If you don't mind UK prices:

I imagine lots of other places have them too, last time I was in The Classic Camera, they seemed to have one.
