I put one of these on hold at one of the Big Dealers here in the U.S. -- sight unseen as they haven't made any pix of it and don't seem interested in doing so. It is an AE and they assure me it is a Contax Zeiss Sonnar, NOT a Yashica.

For the life of me, I can't google any references to it and Tocad U.S. hasn't a clue.

Have you seen/used one of these?

TIA!/ScottGee1

Mike, that's good to hear! BTW, welcome to RFF!

Wonder why it's so difficult to google info about it? Maybe I need google training. :p

Thanks!/Scott

The CZ S100 C/Y is one of my favorite lenses: small, sharp, awesome bokeh, good DOF scale. It was an economy tele for the Contax 139Q, but is nonetheless first-rank. Being somewhat rare, it now fetches more than the S85.

The lens wasn't sold in large numbers because of slow speed. That results in a "rare" status, it's quite expensive and more a collector's item nowadays. But - no wonder at a slow speed lens - very sharp and lightweight lens.

It arrived yesterday and is, as advertised, in "Demo" condition sans box and packing so I guess they should have described it as "Mint".

That said, I'm doing initial testing of it on an EOS 30D using an adapter with focus confirmation. I also plan to compare it with my EF 85/1.8 and 70-200/2.8 'L' -- should be fun! Have to hold off on shooting it with film until I get a C/Y mount body!

BTW, does anyone know which model hood is recommended for it?

Since the word "rare" was used in two of the responses above, I have to ask -- how does that affect price? What might it be worth on the open market, e.g., eeekbay?

Cheers!/ScottGee1

I have owned 4 of these in the last 10 years. The cheapest one I got was $225, the most was around $400. There may be different versions like AE vs MM or made in Japan vs made in Germany that affect the collector price.

Mike

Interesting that is was available long enough to make the transition from AE to MM and Germany to Japan!

Thanks!/ScottGee1
