Zeiss Super Ikonta 532/16 win

I used one as a companion to my M2 back in the 60's-70's and loved it. It's a lot less handy than an M because of its weight and size but that big negative packs a lot of info in it. Beware of light leaks in the bellows and enjoy!

That has the uncoated Tessar. A fine performer. It looks like it should be serviced, and I would expect that focusing is going to be stiff, and the viewfinder cloudy.

It probably will work OK, but it would benefit from a service. Not sure of the age, but if it's prewar then it's at least 65 years old.

These are very nice cameras. You get 11 shots per roll (not 12), and the weight of the camera gives you a nice shooting platform.

The Tessar gives predictable round out of focus backgrounds when shot wide open to about f/5.6. At f/8 and smaller, it's very sharp.

Congrats on your purchase.

I had one of these. This one will probably need a CLA., as the lubricants had pretty much dried up by the Reagan Administration. There are lots of moving parts.

As mentioned, at f/8 to f/11. Wide open at f/2.8 its pretty hard to focus close in. The Tessar is pretty stretch at that point.

Wait until you pick it up. It is a heavy beast. What isn't brass is made of precision machined steel and aluminum.

I had one years ago which I picked up at a flea market. Had to pretty much overhaul it to get it back into working condition so I'll be able to do this one too. Still kick myself for selling it..

The seller told me the lens looks good and the rangefinder is clear and appears to be accurate but I'll wait to see. Also said focus was pretty easy.

According to cameraquest this one will be an early post war version since the chrome trim was added after the war and it has the combined range/viewfinder.

I would have guessed that the lubrication had dried up around the Johnson or Nixon administrations.

I once knew a camera collector who never used any of his collection but had them cla'd every 3 years. His reason was more value when he traded for others..
After he died I was able to buy one of his Rolleiflex TLR's that was in excellent working condition. Still using it...

As Daffy would put it, "you're dithpickable" :D

That's a nice bit of luck. I know I've been watching for one like that for a long time though I think I'm more inclined these days to look for a Mess Ikonta. Congrats!

Do I sense a bit of jealousy??

This one actually fell into my lap. I was looking for something else and found it in the last 4 minutes of the auction.

A Mess Ikonta is indeed much smaller and lighter than a Super Ikonta and you will get 12 exposures per roll instead of 11. If you can live with the non coupled rangefinder, there are great bargains on e*ay. I just got a 524/16 with a super sharp coated Opton Tessar in Synchro Compur for $95.

I have one of these cameras that i inherited from my wife's grnadfather. When I first got it, none of the speeds below a 30th worked. But i just kept firing the shutter over and over at various speeds, and after a weekend of playing around with it, it loosened up such that all the speeds except the very slowest work well now. I run a few rolls a year through it, and I've been VERY IMPRESSED with the lens - I often shoot it wide open or at f/4 and the bokeh is beautiful and it's definately sharp "enough".

Enjoy it.

The Ikonta arrived today.

To be honest I am a bit surprised at how good condition it is in. Everything works as it should. RF is dead on focus is smooth and the glass is clean and clear without hazing, fungus, or even cleaning marks. It seems this camera was well taken care of.
The only thing I had to do was to clean the external view/rangefinder windows to brighten up the view.
Even came with a new in date 120 roll of film
