Zeiss Touit lenses no better than m43?

I was a bit shocked. It has always been my experience that Zeiss lenses were great, especially colors and lens character. Now I know that a number on a line does not indicate how good a lens really is but still....a little surprise? Maybe this just shows how good m43 lenses can be?

consider that it is fairly "easy" to make 50s, i'm not surprised
but comparing the 12 and 12 straight doesn't make sense because of the field of view?

Seems like it. DXO has never been one of my favorite places to visit, probably because all my cameras and lenses get rated so low! haha.....

But really, yeah a 50 is pretty easy now a day, but still, you expect something a bit more for your money? Who is making these new Zeiss lenses?

i'm not surprised that the Panasonic-Leica 25mm holds its own; it is as good as any 50mm or 50mm equivalent I own. A remarkably good lens.

i remember reading it is actually sony making the lenses as someone had found they were made in japan

I always feel m4/3 feels closer to a P&S sensor in flatness than closer to APS-C. APS-C feels closer to full frame in its results. Just a feeling.

I've always had the OPINION that modern lenses are all 'good enough' if judged by the numbers produced by sites like DXOMark and photozone. And I do enjoy reading the reviews on those sites as much as anyone.

However, I think the differences in lenses that seem to drive market value/price are more linked to perceived 'character' of lenses. People love the 'look' that their favorite lenses produce, even though the numbers might show some other brand/model as better. There are others here that can far better weigh in on what characteristics make a Biogon lens look 'Zeiss', a Summicron look 'Leica', and a Nokton look 'CV'. And its pretty clear that people are willing to pay for that character... no matter what some MTF chart says.

Do DXO scores reflect color and contrast or just sharpness across the different apertures?

Comparing lenses cross platforms is comparing apples with oranges. The Zeiss lenses were tested on Sony Nex cameras......
Also, they're only available for X and E-mount, so, any comparison to M3/4s lenses is moot.

As others have said, almost all modern lenses are great, with Zeiss, like a BMW, you are paying 50% more for an extra 5%, wether is this is worth it is down to the individual.
I'm using a Sigma DP2M currently, is the amazing IQ worth the trade-off for battery life, flexibility, high ISO (I could go on...)? For me, it is.

Back onto m4/3, I used the standard kit 20mm with a GF-1, it's an amazing lens, fast, sharp, tiny, a reason to buy m4/3 IMO.
