I think Photoshop autolevels affected the previous sample shots bokeh appearance
to me these shots show a better idea of what the lens will do
we will get more info when Sean Reid posts test results from the same lens.

Much better, IMO. In the first series, I like the f2.0 shot the best.

Bokeh-wise, it now looks like the Planar eats Nikkors for lunch.
This would be a great portrait lens for Nikon DSLRs, but a 58-52 step-down ring is needed if you don't want to buy extra filters.

If it were AF, I'd consider the 85mm as a portrait/fashion lens for the D200 (if hell froze over and I actually bought a DSLR again)

So it looks like the more peculiar out of focus effects only occur at close focus distances wide open, and disappear at moderate focus distance and/or when stopped down a bit.
I wonder if some of the bright ring/doubling effect on the wide open end at 18" and 24" might be exaggerated by the D200 sensor, and the effect might be more subtle or even absent on film. Has anyone seen film scans from the lens? So far All I have seen have been from digital SLRs.
