ZI battery compartment?

This might sound like an odd question, but does the battery compartment cover on a ZM Ikon screw directly into the metal baseplate like a film SLR (Nikon, Minolta, etc.) or does it screw through a plain hole into a threaded plastic battery holder like a Bessa? I can't find a photo of the open battery compartment to see how it's made.

The metal cap screws into the metal base of the camera.
