I don't have any photos of my ZI's lugs and I cannot say what material they are made of, but mine wore down crazy fast. After just 500 or so rolls, the front edges of the lugs wore down to the point that they are now a sharp edge. So, now I use it without any strap at all: metal rings will wear it further and the threads of Gordy's straps will cut themselves on it in no time. This is one area where I was extremely disappointed with my ZI.
Apparently the lugs are improved on the recent ZIs along with the stability of the ZI RF's alignment.

thomas, I hope you're right ... though, my ZI's serial number is not that early and (at least according to the other thread) likely has the improved RF (1559xxxx). In any case, except for the lugs and the covering (which had to be replaced after a mere 300 or so rolls), it's been sturdy as can be (it's taken a very hard knock on cement and the RF stayed put).
Apparently the lugs are improved on the recent ZIs along with the stability of the ZI RF's alignment.

Further to what Jon and Keith wrote, credit certainly has to go to Zeiss' product designer (in collaboration with Cosina's people of course) to allow the eyepiece bulge above the top plate. This in effect emphasizes the merit of their viewfinder. Naturally, the Marketing people would certainly exploit this feature as being something superior to other RF's out there.
ZI & CV Bessa cameras have the same eyepiece although the lens/RF patch is different.

Oh, WOW
I must be one of the last lucky ones, B&H discontinued the bundles just days after I placed my order (with the Biogon 2/35 ZM T*).
I just love the camera, is the best I ever had in 135.
I do not have any problems with the VF patch, using it and focusing became second nature right the way.
I am a little worried about the lugs, though.
Have the lugs in the latest production models been improved (perhaps made of SS) or is that just a rumor? Was there a press release in regard to it?
The SN on mine is: 1561xxxx
Just wondering.

It looks like they might be reducing the number of combinations. B&H has the 50mm f/1.5 bundle listed as temporarily unavailable and the rest discontinued. I previously picked up a couple of bundles and have been happy with these cameras.

B&H probably hasn't updated yet. The news was just released yesterday. It looks like they might be reducing the number of combinations. Update...
Update...
Zeiss bundles are available again with lenses from 18mm to 50mm in silver and black. No presentation boxes this time though.
I'm really thinking about getting the Ikon with 25mm 2.8 (a focal length I don't have) or maybe the 21mm 2.8 and selling my Voigtlander 21mm f4. Any opinions on either of these lenses? I'm too lazy to search!

I don't think the loss of the presentation box is a big problem. I did get one when as part of my bundle a few months ago, but even though it's a very nice presentation box I think its only real purpose will be to help with resale down the track
The new (higher) prices of the bundles are a bit surprising, but they're still better value than buying the items individually.

I'll be getting the ZI / 50/1.5 bundle in a week or 2 from B&H. At a around a $300.00 savings over buying separately, and I'll also get a ZM 28/2.8 as my RF kit. I'm ready...to get back to get to using a film RF. It's like buying the ZM 50/1.5 for $700.00. I'm sure I won't be disappointed. I understand is has a little higher contrast than others, but, that could be a good thing too.

The Ikon is great, my stupid M6 still doesn't work, but I'd NEVER pay $1600 or more for an Ikon.
