Dear all,

I recently bought a ZI super ikonta III (531/16) and am completely surprised that it does not have any strap lugs. now that was clever you-have-to-buy-the-case-or-ever-fear-to-drop-your-camera marketing by Zeiss- like 50 years ago, and I am unable to locate that matching case in the 21st century, and feel really bummed out. does anyone of you have one lying around? like, a spare? ;) or not use yours anymore? ;) .. it's a far shot, but heck... :D

best,

max

Max, I've a ZI 531/16 too. I just haul it around in a small shoulder bag with film. When I need to shoot I haul it out. It has lots of room for film and even filters too.

Trying to find one of the cases may cost as much as a small shoulder bag. Just an alternative if you don't have luck here.

I'm actually thinking about building a weird contraption myself. kind of an aluminium u-bar fastened to the tripod thread, with an attached domke wrap. should be quite straightforward. will post if results ;)

by the way, on the front end of the lens there is a flip switch that toggles between "X" and "M"- do you know what it does, precisely?

hmm.
I do have a case :)):))
i never realized it is such a treasure!
Indeed the lack of strap lugs is funky. But i didn't really miss them that much. The case has a leather strap.
Having a case around is good for protection, but not good for film changing.

OK..what would you offer for such a case?

x-m on the shutter stands for x-sync (electronic flash) and m-sync (old light bulb type flash). If you use no flash it makes no difference, If you use a flash it probably will be an electronic one (todays shutters all are) so use it on X.

I thought you'd have a case.. and I also know that it's your fault I bought a ZISI, because I saw those "swiss forest" shots in your gallery. So I looked up that camera. And got one. And as the story goes, I now need a light meter, and a case, and 120 film, and if I like MF a med. format scanner.... ;)
shall I go on? :D

it's GAS hell.
but I love that camera.

as for the case... let's PM this... ;)

hehe.

And you also need something wider...with closer focus capability... how about ground glass focusing? I think you need a kowa six 6x6 slr.
hehe.

No really, the super ikonta is a great little machine. It is surprisingly quite SMALLER than my yashica gsn in general, except it is a tiny bit taller. And it's pocketable!!
(The Kowa is not pocketable. :D )

OK, let's pm the case.

yes, I also happen to have seen that kowa. I was also thinking about it, but unfortunately there's quite a bit too much, err, stuck on it. and with the ZISI, I avoid lens GAS. knowing myself, that is a smart move.. :)

you know noci it's rather funny, you having that japanese female face as your avatar and under it stands the word "noci" which is a funny word for a "woman", in hungarian.

I have 3 Ikontas. I've found a couple of ways to get around the camera strap problem. You can use a wrist strap that screws into the tripod thread ,or you can use a wrist or neck strap attached to the extra space on the lugs are holding the side hand strap. These can be found at most good camera shops (universal straps).

The ones I like best are the custom leather straps from Gordy's. They are great and the delivery is quick.

Just GOOGLE Gordy's Camera Straps

x-m switch selects electronic flash (x - modern flashes) and bulb flash (m - older standard with use-once bulbs). If you use no flash it makes no difference.
If you use flash leave it on X.
I think also the timer needs it on X, otherwise does not work, but i am not sure which model you have. My SI does not even have a timer.
