zm 21/4.5 ordered...

Since you listed them all, Tom, what do you think of a Ricoh 21?
And I'm glad Joe is getting his ZM 21 - cause I'm getting his CV21 ;) I had one a while back and foolishly sold it and missed it ever since. And Joe - hope to see some pics from your new ZM 21 once you get it!

The Ricoh is not bad, about on par with the S-A 21f3.4. Tiny little lens - the size of the 21f4 VC, which is not surprising as Cosina made it for Ricoh to their specifiations. It has probably the worst finder for any 21! Big and heavy. The lens has some interesting features. The diameter of the control rings is small and it has two small levers for controlling aperture and focus and I find that I am always mixing them up!
They are evidently quite rare, particularly in black, but as mine was a gift from the guy at Ricoh who designed it, I wont sell it. I do use it occasionally, mainly in a Bessa R or a Leica IIIf.

I wish there a more accessible marketplace for the Zeiss goods, even Leica gear is easier to acquire than Zeiss. Who is the Zeiss equivalent of CameraQuest?[/QUOTE]

Check with Tony Rose at Popflash (one of the Rf sponsors). Good guy to deal with and he stocks the Zeiss stuff.

Tom, I'm really getting sick of you singing the praises of the Zeiss 21, (haven't I spent enough on must have purchases this year?) I'll vouch for Tony at Popflash also, lovely guy and great prices. My ZM 18 Distagon from him was at least $150 cheaper than I could find it anywhere. All the best Joe.

They seem to be easy to find - Adorama and B&H carry them as well as Popflash. Prices seem to be within a dollar. Maybe not all ship to to Australia?

Alan, you haven't even heard me singing about the Ultron 28f2!!!!

The question now is what DSLR are you going to try?

i ordered a sony a300 with kit lens.
but then was told it was back ordered.
now waiting for 2 to 4 weeks but no rush cause i have a new zm 21/4.5 in my hands right now!!
it is small, almost as small as the cv 21. i hope it shines like the 25.
the r4a has it mounted, silver lens on black body - very nice.
the 21 frame lines are cramped on the right lower corner but i think i can learn to live with it.

tomorrow i head out with the 21 and the 35/2.8

Well done. I am awaiting a call back regarding weekend plans. R4a to a fair this weekend, maybe the 21 for me too.

Have been waiting for a chrome R4 to match my chrome ZM lenses but maybe now can consider the black R4*s .......

i much prefer the look of the chrome zm lenses to the black, so much so, that even knowing this lens would sit on a black body i bought a silver lens.
but then i really do like the look of silver on black.

I bought the zeiss 21 4.5 from a fellow RFF member a couple of weeks ago. I had a chance to play with one before I bought it and I was really impressed with the tonality and sharpness across the image.

The original mount on my lens was already swapped to a 28mm, which is perfect for my M8. With f4.5 I sacrificed speed for size because I wanted a small lens for traveling.
I would like to get a 21 finder for my film bodies; how is the CV 21mm finder?
The zeiss is around $300. which is a big expense...

the cv metal finders are great.
the plastic ones are good but i fear breakage due to clumsiness.
but i will probably get a 21 cv finder eventually so i can use the lens on my zi as well.

This is with the 21f4.5 ZM at about f8. This was at the Concours D'Elegance in Gastown here in Vancouver last saturday. This has to be one of the largest convertibles ever built. A 1960 Lincoln Continental Mark V. The light in Gastown is difficult, its either feast or famine!
Acros 100 in homebrewed Beutler, 1 part A/1 part B and 10 parts water - 7 min/10sec agit. every 60 sec.

This is the counterpart to the Lincoln Continental - a BMW Isetta. It was an early Smart Car. Short enough that you could park "nose-in" and step out through the opening front door! Scary to drive -and as it had a 300cc engine, overtaking anything (bicycles, prams, mopeds and pedestrians) took some planning.
ZM C Biogon 21f4.5. Acros 100 in homebrewed Beutler 1:1:10 for 7 min.
