ZM/DR Alert

My DR Summicron will not focus past 10 m once mounted on the Zeiss Ikon. And it won't even to mount with the lens set to infinity.

It's not a problem, I can use other 50 mm's, but just a heads up to all ZI/DR owners/potential owners.

If you wanted to, you could machine off the entire close-focus cam with a Dremel and it would work fine in the normal focus range. Not saying anyone should do that to a mint example with the eyes that still has some collector value. But maybe you happened to pick up a bargain grade, engraved lens with an ugly exterior and no eyes, and figured there's no real loss. If you did happen to machine off that flange, you'd find that it mounts and works great on the ZI.

Why would I want to do a thing like that? The purpose of a DR summicron is to use it for close range.

or you know...you could just go trade it for a rigid version...

well, my purpose was use it as a normal lens with the particular fingerprint of a DR/rigid, and I happened to come across a very beat-up and affordable DR with no eyes

Trade the DR for an example of the Rigid.

The DR and Rigid share the same optical formula.

That way you won't have to butcher your beautiful DR.

Harry: His DR seems to be "very beat up", so I doubt he'd be able to trade straight up. I'd save the effort and do the Dremel tango.
