ZM film take up.

After just spending a 'fun' half hour trying to get a film straight from my newly acquired ZM onto a developing spiral I could do with some advice.

Once opened the film roll unrolled explosively all over the inside of the changing bag. I assume this is because the film winds onto the take up spool in the camera in a spiral counter to the way in the film cassette.

A film taken last week in the same camera did not have this problem. Is there an optimal time to leave the used cassette out of the camera before attempting to develop it?

I'm not familiar with the ZM, but I've had something like that with cameras that wind the film on that way. It is worst when you have the film in the camera for a while. Leaving the film rewound into the cassette overnight is usually enough to take the set out.

Still, it has only been a problem for me a few times and I've always managed to load it successfully onto stainless reels. It sounds like that is the type of reel you use. What kind of film was it?

It was an Ilford HP5. It went on in the end after I re-wound the film to follow the imprinted curve.

It's just in the developing tank now so we will see how many fingerprints etc. I got on it soon.
