hi,

i originally posted this under the cle forum -- maybe i'll get some replies here:

after some bessas, an m6, and a cle, i've decided that my favorite camera is the cle. i primarily use it with an elmarit 28/2.8. i'd like to use it as my primary body (might sell everything else) and i'm interested in trying some zm glass, so i was wondering how to work around the limited framelines on the cle.

i am considering a zm 25/2.8, which i recall reading somewhere i can use the full frame to approximate framelines, or one of the zm 50mm's. i am interested if any of you have used this combination before or one of the more "classic" focal lengths (35mm/50mm) on your cle's.

if so, do you use an vf or just guess? any problems focusing at 50mm?

thanks, any input would be helpful!

I have used the CLE with the 25 Biogon, but since I wear glasses I have used the external finder. However, my impression is, the total VF will match the 25mm pretty well, but the problem will be, the Biogon 25 will block a big part of it. I also like the CLE for its compact size, but I'd keep it as a carryaround camera with a compact 40mm lens, the 50mm will be much tighter than the frames. The 28mm and wider are more difficult to handle due to lack of an exposure lock. I'd say, if you want to stick to one AE rangefinder, try the Zeiss Ikon.

Thank you for your reply.

I am not really interested in purchasing an Ikon, but I would like to try one sometime. I was also wondering if anyone out there shot without framelines. Given that you have 28mm and 40mm, shouldn't it be reasonably easy to approximate a 35mm, at least?

The 28mm and wider are more difficult to handle due to lack of an exposure lock.

Can you explain why it exposure lock is more important on wide angle lenses?

Thank you.
