ZM lenses On the R-D1

so i read the post on the 28mm biogon, and i started salivating, , but now i am wondering if anyone has tried out the 50 planar? im thinking now that instead of investing in a film rangefinder i would invest in 2 sweet lenses instead, and the ZM lenses are actually feasible for me. (summilux.... yea right.)

so i know about the 28 biogon ( and i am excited!!! )

who's tried the 50 planar.... anyone???

have both on the R-D1:
- 28 biogon and
- 50 planar

I am very excided with both lenses on R-D1 and on Rollei 35RF.
The planar seams to have a little bit more contrast.

Its a pleasure to take black & white pictures with color filters, but
also with the color pictures, i am very pleased.

If you like the 28er, i am sure you will love the 50er. 🙂

I have the new 50mm Planar. It's an excellent lens, very sharp with high contrast and smooth out-of-focus rendition. I've used the new 35mm Biogon too...it has the same characteristics. I have my eye on the 28mm as various user reports have been positive. Maybe later this year.

Would much appreciate that. As I see from your galley, you use Leica Asph. How do you compare the Zeiss to the Leica asph.

I am much enjoying my R-D1, 378 images taken so far. I am wanting my next lens to be wider and was considering the 21mm Leica asph but others here tell me I need to look at the Zeiss ZM. The Leica asph are expensive and I do not mind spending the money IF they are much superior to the Zeiss. The key word is how much better.

I also want a 16mm next and worry about the edge to edge quality. I know that a super wide like the 16mm will always have some problems.

I am getting ready to invest alot of funds in these little "jewels" and don't want to go in the wrong direction. Any help from all would help prevent this.

I am really impressed with the R-D1, after using my Nikon DSLRs for so long, I am finding a new love for photography with this camera. I still miss my self timer and am using a release cable for the first time in many years! <vbg>

Just took the first dozen shots with the ZM 28 / 2.8 - one attached. First impressions are (i) good edge to edge sharpness, (ii) little or no vignetting on RD1, (iii) weight is low, build quality is high. Also, a nice 3-dimensional look in b/w.

If the Zeiss 21mm Biogon in M mount is as good as the G version the Leica ASPH will have met its match. At least as far as resolving capability is concerned. There are other aspects of lens performance worthy of attention. 😉

I will be doing a review of the full Zeiss lens range (Leica M mount) this fall. Hasselblad can get me the lenses but I likely won't have time to start working on any serious reviews until mid-October.
