olegs has kindly put the zorki 3 on hold for me while i wait for a cheque to clear. its even marked as 'reserved' on the site. very nice fellow.

anyway. im having the zorki 3 sent home to australia so i cant use it here in shanghai. but as luck would have it, there was a guy selling his zorki at the camera store i frequent. this must be a sign! haha. I had a look at the camera and everything seems good. nothing missing and the body/ lens look clean. but there are a few niggly question i have. firstly, i think i read somewhere that the rangefinder window has to be viewed level otherwise it would be out of allignment. is this true? because if my eyes werent level with the body the images didnt not allign properly.

another is shutter and shutter speed setting. the speed settings didnt seem to allign with the shutter speed marker when i wound the camera. does this simply mean i wound the camera too far or is there something wrong? i wound the camera until the knob provided resistance. is this simply just quality control problem and i should just wind until the markers match up?

what other faults should i looks for? i cant figue out a way to see if the shutter curtains have holes in them, since the back doesnt come off these cameras? does it involve disassembling?

cheers. cant wait to put my first roll through these little gems. im also pretty sure ill shell out for the used sekonic 308b they have. Im also looking at all the cheap LTM lenses now. the summarit seem like a decent buy, how does it compare to the jupiter 3? i think ill also get a summar for kicks

The dial marks should line up when the wind knob stops moving. If they are not, that could indicate a couple of things... Either the shutter is damaged somehow or the knob has slipped on its shaft and needs to be loosened and moved into the correct spot. (I'm hoping for the second one)

There are quite a few Zorkis in Shanghai, so you can probably look around a compare prices. I think I saw a Mir going for about RMB260 so there is really no hurry.

IMOH, most second hand camera store in Shanghai are a little dodgy, so I only buy things I know I can fix myself. Maybe Oleg is the better option, but be aware you can get you stuff impounded at Customs and they might want a small "fee" to have your goods released.

seen any good zorki 1s? the one i saw was going fo 500RMB. thi is from that place near the trainstation.

I would also try the place near Yong Kang lu, they have a few there.

But if time is not an issue I would suggest you get it from Oleg, I would not buy anything I cannot repair myself here.

Often they would buy junk lots from online auctions and do just enough to make it work, i.e. broken shutter ribbon were taped together instead of replaced, using WD-40 to unjam mechanism.
