Zorki 3M woes

Just had the a couple of test rolls developed from my Zorki 3M and all is not well 🙁 The first two shots on the roll are fine then there's a couple that are just a black background with bright blurry blobs then a few with just a faint streak down the centre , After these the camera suddenly works again with some superbly clear shots that give a hint of what the camera is capable of 😎 Second roll is a total disaster first shot is fine but Clear negatives after that for the rest of the film ie no exposure .

Now Ive run through the shutter speeds and at 1/10 or less the shutter works but any speed faster than that and the shutter fires but if I look through the shutter curtain there's no light passing through 😕 There's no sign of kitchen table surgery (chewed up screwheads,scratches etc) so any ideas before I strip the shutter down for a closer look ??

(Edit) Also noticed B apears to be acting as approx 1/60 possible broken ribbons ? (/edit)

I would send the camera to Oleg.
the Zorki 3M is a nice camera and worth a proper fix IMHO.

Take a good look at the pictures which had light leaks, check the negatives for the frames.Does the light leak over the rest of the film, or is it just the 'frame'.
In which light conditions where te pictures taken, did you use a lense hood for example. Haze can be a problem when you are taking a picture against the light. Did you use an every ready case? (it may block some light). There must be a black kind of cord/string between the camera body and the removable back.

check to see that the shutter speed dial is not loose.
if the grub screws that hold the dial are loose, the dial could have spun 100 degrees or so, & B is where 1/60 should be.

Just checked out fidget,s post on curtain adjustment (Here)
and I am wondering if its just major capping ? there is no curtain separation at speeds above 1/25 hence no pictures , Again I wonder if the camera had sticking curtain issues and the second curtain has been over tensioned to compensate ,I then run a couple of rolls through it and loosen everything up and the curtain synch goes to pot ?


either that or I left the lens cap on for 23 exposures of a 24 roll 😀

All sorted now , it was the delay arm not engaging the second curtain ,Crud in the gears 🙄

Might this be the same issue with my Fed 3. The B mode acts as 1/60. I still do not know how to fix it. How easy is it and how much of the camera I have to disasseble? Is there a diagram somewhere where this delay arm is pictured?

http://stephenc7.tripod.com/cameras/fed2.htm Its described as the shutter pawl on that site , My problem wasn't so much B not working as no exposure what so ever , Take the back of your camera , select a speed, 1/100would do then fire the shutter whilst pointing at a light source if you see light all is well , if you see no light the delay arm isn't engaging .

Not to sure if my fix qualifies as easy as I stripped out the wind on roller and gears to make sure all was spotless as I had cleaned and lubed the gears when I received the camera but obviously not well enough .
