Hi folks,

I have just aquired a Zorki 4K. Having noted the rule about cocking the shutter prior to changing shutter speeds, I tried it out.
The Shutter sometimes moves part way across and then releases. It never gets fully cocked.

I wondered if anyone can advise whether a CLA would be likely to resolve this or whether someting is seriously broken.

Also the viewfinder looks blurred although the RF appears to work.

Some of the screws look as though someone has been inside before!

If a CLA is in order Wolves' instructions look excellent for a first timer.

Thanks

I'm halfway through a 4k CLA myself, but I'm afraid I can only help you with one of your questions. With regards to the blurry viewfinder; there should be a little lever to the left of said item, at the bottom of the rewind knob. Try moving that backwards and forwards and that should clear the image up.

I believe that it may have something to do with the take spool/fork. There is a gear on top of the take up spool. It engages two other smaller gears that reset the shutter. If the take up spool is not on tight enough that gear can slip down a little bit and allow the shutter to slip. I believe that it is a matter of getting the take up spool tighter up against the top of the camera. I haven't worked on a Z4K in a while as I have been drawn to the earlier models. If you can watch the actions during advancement with the back off, that might make it easier to figure out.

Thanks very much for your replies.

The blurred viewfinder was indeed resolved by the diopter adjustment.

The early shutter release was caused by the shutter release button being locked in the open position.

Reading instruction manuals is a valuable exercise!!!!

Thanks again
Les
