Zorki 4k - shutter speed jam

Hi guys,

My Zorki 4k shutter speed ring has jammed on 1/60th. I can't 'lift' the dial out of its seating to change it.

Before I get my screwdriver out and probably render the entire camera useless I wondered if anyone had any tips to try and get it working again? Any recommended oils etc or should I just try brute force?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Mine has never done that but the speed selector is indeed a PITA. I'm never sure if I have 60 or 125 selected, for example. Just too close together given the, ahem, generous tolerances.

Common problem, the actuating pin of the slow speed mechanism should sit just next to the shutter speed selection pin when set to 1/60, if it is slightly misplaced then the speed selector will jam at the 1/60 setting .... do not force it.

Firstly you will have to remove the top of the camera. The slow speed mechanism is held on with 2 screws (one is accessible through the hole on a cog). Very slightly loosen these screws and move the mechanism slightly so that the pin just clears the speed selector, do not loosen the screws too much and keep a downward pressure on the slow speed mechanism until you retighten the screws otherwise the pawl at the bottom of the mechanism could move from it's correct position.

You could continue to use the camera without doing this if you move the shutter speed selector to the next location clockwise whilst the shutter is uncocked, then cock the shutter and you will be able to set all speeds again, but do not select 1/60 or it will jam again.

^^I'll second this, I've had it happen to my 4K. Slight adjustment of the slow speed mechanism may well cure it. The sticky at the top of this subforum will show you how to get at it.
