Zorki 4K ????????

Well my new Russian Aunt brought me a gift from her recent trip home. A Zorki 4K with a 50mm lens. The finder isn't the easiest to focus. Even when focused it seems slightly blurred. Is this normal? Also what quality with the 50mm 3.5 give me? I have a screw mount Leica 5cm I can use on it if I choose. I thought about using with my Voitlander 15mm and focusing wouldn't be an issue.

No, it isn't normal. My 4K's rangefinder is very clear and shows focus easily. I think you have an Industar 3.5 - a copy of an Elmar 3.5. It should give you excellent results. Here are some samples with my J8 on my Zorki 4K. It sounds like your camera needs a CLA. You'll find many other examples in the International Commie Day - May 1, 2009 Flickr group.

Could it be the vertical alignment? My R3a is ever so slightly out of VA and it makes the RF patch a bit blurry since the images will never overlap exactly.

Does anyone know what earth-shaking development caused the M-series Leicas, etc. not to need the eyesight adjustment when all the LTM ones had it? It must have been some technological breakthrough, because I doubt if human eyesight changed its practices.

the Leica II never had it, and also a lot of the japanese Barnack copies also omitted it.

Too difficult/expensive/bulky to install. A very old 'breakthrough'.

Not to hijack this, but, I've got a FED 2 and I've been thinking of adding another USSR Rangefinder, likely a Zorki 4K, since I like the shutter/wind cock over just turning a knob. How does it compare in size to the FED?

Rough comparison makes it seem that they're nearly the same, with the Zorki being a bit larger. The Kievs all seem to be larger and the smallest seems to be the FED1/Zorki1 or the Mir. Does that sound about right?

As far as Zorki's go, is the 4K a decent reliable choice if one gets a nice one (I figure I'll get it from fedka).

the Mir is a Zorki 4 without the slow speeds, but it still is the same size as the Zorki 4.
