zorki 4s, does rewind knob move while winding?

I received and loaded up my first FSU, a zorki 4 today.

I may have found a secret way to load film into these, but I will get into that later.

First off, as I take pictures, and wind the lever, does the rewind knob move to let me know the film is moving?

only if iflm is tight(and caught on the takeup spool)

The rewind knob should rotate as you wind on. If it doesnt, your film isn't spooled properly.


What's this secret way to load then?

OK, just finished first roll, here is the secret to getting an extra frame or two out of the roll:

instead of putting the leader under, then over the takeup spool, just slip the end into one of the takeup spool splines, ensuring that it is "hooked" on both the body sprokets, and on a sproket on the takeup assembly, then put the back on, and shoot 25 or 26 frames per 24 roll.

heheh been doing that with all my cameras for years 🙂 that way you don't have to do the whole 'take 2 empty shots and set counter to 0' crap. i routinely get 27 and 38 shots out of 24 and 36 roll films 🙂

the neat thing about a hexar af is you just slap the film down and close the door, shoot, take film out. no rewinding or sproket loading, and you get 27-28 shots/roll (or 27.5 or 28.5 😀 )

I wondered why I was always getting 40 exposures!!

My bulk rolls get me over 40 since I have 2 either side for leaders, and I use that loading method.
