I finally have come to the conclusion that the semi-mirror in the viewfinder has worn out, and am thinking about replacing it. Anyone know if this is a standard size throughout the Zorki/FED line? I've a few FED2 bodies, I could stand to use one of them as a parts donor.

Been a while since I had the top off a Z-6 but I seem to recall it's more or less the same as a Z-5 and not anything else. It's actually not a half-silvered mirror, if you mean the bit behind (in front of) the eyepiece rather than the bit by the RF window. The eyepiece is 2 triangular prisms glued, long edge to long edge, into a block, IIRC and shouldn't be subject to "wear".

Ah, so maybe it's my eyes then. :bang: I guess that is where the blueish cast to the finder comes from. One thing I did try was to put an orange filter on the rangefinder window, but it was no help (might have even made things worse). I'll have to check it again when it's daylight, minus the orange filter. Thanks for the info, Wolves.

Have you tried the simple expedient of putting a small black dot that lines up with the RF spot on the outer VF glass? This helps improve contrast quite a bit - I've done it on my FED-2. A black Sharpie is the easiest method, and of course completely reversible if it doesn't work for you.

That's next on the list. I hope to get it dialed in by May Day.

I will need to pop the top off, since while looking through the rangefinder window, I notice quite a bit of something that could be blocking light transmission. Hopefully, it's on the mirror, and not on the prism itself.
