Zorki 6 lens question.

I've received a Zorki-6, but the lens focus ring is so tight that it's nearly impossible to focus the lens.

I'm looking for advice on (a) freeing up the focus ring or (b) getting a replacement lens.

The rest of the camera seems solid, and I'm into it for next to nothing.

(The existing lens is an Industar 50 3.5 lens).

The camera is a bit larger than I had anticipated, but looks like a bit of fun if I can resolve the lens issue.

Also - are there lens caps availble for these babies? This one has the leather case (with a REALLY odd smell. I think the case will end up in the discard pile. Eeewww 😛 ) but nothing over the lens for protection.

(Of course, when one has no investment, one shouldn't complain all that much 🙄 ).

The stiff focusing is likely due to a dirty helical. You can take the lens down and clean the helical with naphtha or the degreaser of your choice and relube See this post for more details (I'm assuming this is the rigid I50).

You can also check Yuri's site (www.fedka.com) he currently has a rigid I50 for $27 . In addition he has a selection on lens caps, hoods and all kinds of FSU toys.

Thanks! I'm going to try the teardown and relube; if I totally foul it up I'll order a lens.

(I can't get over these prices 😛 ; and I wouldn't dream of tearing down a Nikon AF lens...I haven't take a photo yet and I'm already enjoying this thing!)

Clean your case with ballistol or a brown shoe graise that smells good. It prevents the case from breaking/toring. I also oil or polish the straps. When they dry out, they can break off easily.

If you do end up needing a new lens, an Industar I-61 LD wouldn't be a bad choice. You can often pick them up very cheaply on eBay (mine cost very little), and they're excellent lenses.

Or, if you want to keep the same optical formula, maybe look at a Collapsible versions, Industar 22 or Industar 50. They make for a really small package when the are in the collapsed position. If not, I would go for the I-26 LD (Try to aim for the L/D version!)... they are a very nice contrasty lens, and still a lot faster than a consumer Zoom SLR lens!

That added considerable re-assembly time - those screws are tiny and hard to get back into position.

But the re-lube went perfectly (I think the lithium grease I used is a little light for the application, but I can always get a heavier grease and re-do the job now that I know how).

The lens movement is now quite smooth; I hope to get some shooting time in later today.

If you are interested in a I-61 52mm f/2.8 let me kow. I have one that is fully serviced and ready to go cheap. It does have very minor cleaning marks on the front element that don't affect image quality.

Was having a look at the FSU forum and found this thread. Quite interesting, mostly considering I have the same lens (I50/3.5) but wit the opposite problem: too loose front ring!!.
It's really difficult to match focus without moving the apperture setting (and opposite).
Any ideas of where the problem is??
