Hi,
If you look on ebay you'll see FED and KMZ etc reloadable cassettes available from time to time. They're a little like the old Contax ones.
Normal reloadable ones also work.

I have one I could sell you!
It's the same as this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-Fil...ltDomain_0&hash=item564867fb96#ht_1581wt_1396
Don't know which FSUs it fits, and I have not tried it. Got it in a lot of IXMOO parts.

That won't fit a Zorki 1, since the knob on the side has no room for it in the Zorki or FED 1.
Question to the OP: does your Zorki 1 have a provision on the bottom plate to even open a cassette, like a Leica has? I would be most interested to see it, since I have never before seen it on a Zorki or FED!

According to the picture, it looks very similar to the casettes which are used by the bottom loading Canon RF.

My Zorki Ie has a pin on the locking mechanism of the base plate that is pointing upwards.
It looks similar to one image shown a Zorkikats page:

In my case the pin is just a little more bent to the vertical.

There are at least three types of all-metal reloadable cassettes with the two cylinder design for FSU cameras, made for Kiev, Fed and Zorki cameras. They are not interchangeable. They all look very similar. The zorki cassettes are marked with the KMZ logo on the outer cylinder.

Thank you all for your replies!
Rick, is this a casette specially made for the Zorki I or is it a universal casette? How durable is the velvet sealing?
This page reads:
"Please note - this cassette does not work on bottom-loading cameras (such as FED 1 and Zorki 1). It works with FED-2, -3, -4, -5, Zorki-3, -4, -4K."
So I think they will not fit.
Are these Zorki cesettes made for the bottom loaders or for the more modern Zorki with removable back?

Hi,
It's interesting that no matter how well I think I know my cameras I often get a surprise. I now know that the cassettes like the Contax ones but marked "FED" are for the Kiev 2a. And the FED 1's and Zorki 1's only have a tab to lock the base plate in position.
And that makes me wonder if the very early ones had opening fittings inside. I remember reading in a 1941 review of the FED that it was identical to the Leica II but I'd like to see for myself now.
Of course, the conventional re-loadable cassettes are also available from KMZ / FED and I guess that's what's needed.

It's not too difficult to get a FED or Zorki-1 to work with FILCA cassettes, as I've posted somewhere before. As I'm too lazy to find that post, I'll re-post right here:

Derk is right, the only way to open FILCA or IXMOO cassettes in the Zorki or FED type 1 cameras is with a bottom plate hack.
The Contax, FED-2, Nikon, Kiev cassettes do not fit. The standard reloadable cassette Rick showed of course does fit!

Sorry for the late reply Thomas,
I'm sure it is some sort of universal cassete, it is unmarked externally. The spool appears to be the same as from any regular 35 mm cassette.
This one was loaded with Smeva film.
The felt seems pretty thick and there seems to be plenty of it.
The caps are clamped on but can be pulled off by hand if needed.
