zorki1 shutter issue

is my 2nd curtain lagging? i got my 1st roll back and at 200 and
sometimes 500 there is a lightened band on the left of the frames.
this does not occur at the slower speeds. any advice would be
appreciated.

EDIT: i don't see it in the 3rd shot, which was at 200

Yep, looks like it could use a CLA. You can either DIY with info you can find by searching the site or send it to Oleg

or your first curtain is slow. or your second is too fast. adjustment of the spring tension: using the two small silver star-shaped knobs at the bottom of camera. Counterclockwise increases speed; the opening curtain spindle is on the bottom of the camera when lens is turned up and closing curtain spindle is on top.

Dear Phillip,

Non-uniform exhibiting of the staff at endurances 1/250-1/500 s.

As a result of a non-uniform tension of curtains during operation of shutter (long ) curtains has time to catch up the first (short).

Reduce a tension of the second curtains or to strengthen a tension of the first.

Usually, if your curtains aren't hitting the right speed, adjusting spring tension won't ba a good solution. The speed is off because the guts are gummed up to some degree. The only way to get consistant shutter speeds is a cla. You want the spring tension to be as light as possible.

Ditto on all the comments. As mentioned above and on both Rick's & DVD's sites, once cleaned, adjustment will be needed. IMO, it's quite doable if you have the inkling.

I believe my Zorki3M is having the same problem, though more extreme. The shutter gremlins must be returning from their winter hibernation. The links suggested above are very helpful and I plan on trying to fix this myself. What are the differences in operating on the earlier Zorki shown in the dvdtechcameras site as opposed to my "more modern" 3M? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The shots exhibit a bad case of "capping". The only "real" cure is a proper CLA job. There are "fixes" that will hide the problem but these tend to be short term and put an undue strain on the mech. The design of the shutter mech didn't change very much so the basics are the same.
