Folks, I have a realiable, fully functional, first variant of the Zorki 4, but I couldn't help myself. Last night I sprung for a Zorki 3M.

You should be locked off the Net for a year in that far away Siberia with your Zorkies and a bunch of film.

Some feel that the real first variant of the Zorki-4 is the Zorki-3C (S). It was the first to sport the Zorki-4 "look" with the extended rangefinder housing.
I think the 3M is the best Russian rangefinder because it has the best combination of workmanship and functionality. If it wasn't for the size, you'd think it was a Leica IIIc.

Yep, with exception of the timer assembly the 3C is identical to the Z-4.
For various reasons I wanted a 3M. For one thing it looks more traditional than the Z-4. Second, I don't often use a self-timer or flash unit. The lower top deck puts shutter release lower and provides better access to the winder.
Plus, there is the large viewfinder.
I must say that my first foray into FSU cameradom with a 57 edition, Z-4 turned out much better than I ever expected.

Congrats! I hope you're as happy with yours as I have been with mine! the 3m has the features I wanted and nothing extra and it looks much better than most of the other equivalent feds or zorkis. The specific stuff I wanted: strap lugs, slow speeds, LTM mount, cheap(you did better than I did but I'm still happy with mine),big viewfinder,engraved speed markings, and--I have to admit--no one else around here has one.
Haven't had mine long but the pictures are good, the speeds and focus are fine.
The operator hasn't taken any thing wonderful yet but the gear is doing its job just fine.
One thing I strongly reccomend is an adaptor for the tripod bushing. Don't pay alot for one. I got mine 3/$5 (and can't remember where) but I have seen them going for insane prices.
Can any one sign up for that trip to Siberia? Can I bring my Agat 18k also or only my Zorkis?
