Did you sell a dSLR and buy a Leica?

I purchased a Canon 1DsMk2 which made my 5D expendable. So I sold the 5D and got the Epson R-D1s. Haven't looked back since. In fact I will be selling some of my Canon lenses to reduce that kit and purchase a one more lens for the rangefinder.

I sold my Nikon D1x (and 17-55 DX + 70-200 VR) after I bought my first Leica. It is about 9 month ago and I didn`t miss a DSLR at all since then.

went from a dslr to a leica, but would not sell the dslr to fund it. i just thought how much money i'd lose if i was to sell it i might as well keep it. plus, sometimes when you want quick pictures on your computer to mess around with nothing is faster than digital. just keep it, it'll come in handy sometime.

my first ever camera was a nikon d50. Used it for 6 months and bought my first ever rangefinder camera (yashica lynx) and subsequently a CV Bessa R. 1 year later I sold off all my digital system and settled with a m3 + 50mm cron dr and never looked back.

I'm keeping my 20D even after getting an M8. If I'm asked to shoot someone's party I prefer the AF and decent WB in jpegs so I can just burn them a disc with no time spent postprocessing. The M8 is strictly for my personal travel photography. I'm keeping some of my film Leicas and other brands, to shoot an occasional roll, but by and large I can't see any reason to spend time scanning when the results of digital capture are faster and for the most part better with less postprocessing. If I had a wet darkroom and did analog printing, I'm sure I would be more inclined to shoot more film.

i concur. if i had enough cash to get the m3 i would'nt sell off my d50. Lost 40% of it's value in less than a year

My story:

I've bought 350D. Then I've discovered RFF. Then I've bought R3M. Later I've selled 350D because I didn't use it at all. Then yet later I've bought M2.

I'm not using my 30D because for my own pleasure I always prefer to use an RF, and I only take pictures for my own pleasure 🙂

I shoot film regularly, mostly with my M6 and almost exclusively black and white.

This is my story; started photographing on a regular basis about a year ago. Bought a 30D, took a few courses in photography and photoshop. At the end of one course I asked the instructor - what's that RF all about, he lent me a Zorki 4.

Then I used an Olympus SP, Canonnet and after 3-4 months impulsively bought an M6.

Since I don't have much time for the hobby (usually not taking pictures more than two times a week) I prefer to concentrate on one thing. And my hand allways goes to the Leica....

The only reason I'm keeping the digital equipment is for the chance I'll take another photography course or workshop and then will prefer to shoot quick and digital

I sold my 350D because I found its size (especially lens size) a bit obtrusive -- I've been using a Canonet GIII lately, which I enjoyed restoring. And... recently I've taken the plunge and ordered an M6 and 40 summicron -- I'm quite anxious to see the results I get with this combo. I've been prowling around this forum for about a year now, have found it quite useful -- the discussions here are quite civilized as well, which is quite refreshing as compared with other discussion boards.

I bought a K10D convinced I needed antishake. (illness) I gave the Pentax to my wife and went back to my M5 and RD-1. I just like them better. Too many years of using rangefinders, I guess.

I bought a Nikon D70s to replace my old Nikon FE2. I tried really hard to like digital and autofocus but after struggling with it for two years I bought a minty F3 on a whim.

The F3 immediately brought back the joy of being in control of the act of photographing, with the consequent improvement in results, and I soon thereafter sold the D70s. I'd like to sell the two autofocus lenses I have as they are wasted on a non-AF body but no takers yet.

Within a week I was chasing a Hasselblad 5xx (50mm f4, 45° viewfinder, handgrip, etc) system and researching my long-awaited Leica purchase. After a couple of attempts via KEH, I now have a mint M4 w/ 90mm f2.8 Elmarit and I couldn't be happier. Looking to get a 50mm 'lux in the near future.

Everything about film is just right and it's going to take an exceptional system to get me to try digital again.

BTW, I spent the day at a Mexican Charreada (sort of traditional mexican rodeo) in San Antonio today and while most everyone there had all sorts of digital / AF stuff there were also two other guys with film cameras. I wanted to chat with them but there was too much stuff going on and didn't get a chance to say hi. One of them had a TLR (probably a Rolleiflex) and the other an RF (couldn't tell which brand/model) of some kind.

No, rather the other way around. To fund a dslr, I sold a Leica (Minilux, but I guess that doesn't count, does it?) and a Hexar AF.. I did however keep the manual focus RFs. I find the DSLR and the RFs complement each other wonderfully..

The DSLR is for getting results quick and/or longer focal lengths, and the RFs are for when I don't need the pictures immediately or when I'm shooting wide..

I did not sell a DSLR to buy a Leica... but I did sell a digital camera to help fund buying a leica.

Sold a Canon Powershot G6 for 425 and used half of it to buy an M3 with upgraded Viewfinder.

If i didnt need my DSLR I would definately sell it in order to buy an M6 or better leica to be honest.

I sold 3 Nikon D200s and a D1H with a 17-55 AF-S 28, a 70-200 AF-S VR 2.8 a 200 f2 VR AF-S and a 300 2.8 AF-S VR for my Leica M2, VC II Meter, a 35 2.5 VC, and a 50mm 1.5 Summarit and I couldnt be happier
