Busted R3A!

I feel like a fool having to admit this online, but while I was walking along with my new R3A the strap caught on a bench and pulled the camera out of my hand. It fell about 18" onto the sidewalk.

Now the focusing is skewed. I cannot focus on infinity, and I am sure that all calibration of the focusing is out of whack.

I live in Victoria, BC and we have a good camera repair shop that I will contact tomorrow to see if they can work on the Bessa.

I write here because I have read other threads that have discussed the focusing screen not being located in the centre of the screen. Is this a problem with a lot of Bessa'? Any suggestions re repair shops?

Ouch!! Thomas welcome to the forum 🙂 and that is a sad first post! 🙁 I think the issues with Bessas have to do with vertical alignment as well. I would contact Stephen Gandy at Cameraquest about repairs or send a PM to Tom Abrahamsson here who also lives in BC. Commiserations and good luck!

As I understand it the focus patch is in the center of the viewfinder.

But the framelines move a little depending on focus distance to compensate for parallax.

Therefore although the focus patch is always in the center of the entire viewfinder it's sometimes not in the center of the framelines. This is normal behavior and does not need fixing.

No, technically it's not even a problem. It looks that way because the rangefinder patch doesn't move with the framelines, as it does on a Leica. So when people look through their viewfinder with no lens on the body, they think the rangefinder patch is out of center, when in reality it isn't.
