Does anyone know about a Polaroid lens supposedly made for the Mamiya 7 which is mentioned/pictured in this ebay ad: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280180163009

I asked the seller recently and haven't heard back. Searching the net I didn't come across any information on it. Is this lens for real? Are there any lenses made for the Mamiya 7 which are not made by Mamiya?

thank you

Chad,

the 75mm Polaroid lens is new to me. I am a bit skeptical...

This is a very strong indicator that you should stay away. 'Speciallly with only 11 feedbacks.

Seller says there if film included but no description of what KIND of film? And in the picture, the film seems to have been opened? Two lousy photos for such an expensive item? Very limited description?

Bidding on this is asking for disappointment or worse.

That lens is for the Polaroid 600SE

That lens is for the Polaroid 600SE

If you look closely, you will see that the focus helical on that lens is HUGE compared to the mamiya 7 lens. That lens was made by Mamiya for the large film pack Professional Polaroid shooting 3.25X4.25 film packs. Professionals used these cameras for proofing exposure on shoot sites. The lens is a phenomenally sharp lens, as are the majority of Mamiya/Sekor offerings. The other thing about that lens is that the coverage actually covers 4X5 wide open with no movements. I've used it that way.

BUT... no way will it work on the Mamiya 7 rangefinder body. It was also mounted in the focusing helical for the Mamiya Universal and Super 23 bodies. Those mounts are also not interchangable.

One more point...

One more point...

All of the Polaroid 600SE professional system components were made by Mamiya. They were made with components taken from the Mamiya Universal system design. However the contract with Polaroid was that the lenses had to be re-designed for the larger format Polaroid packs and the Breechlock mount had to be different to prevent cross platform purchases of lenses from Polaroid to be used on Mamiya Universals and conversely Mamiya Lenses to be used on Polaroids. Interestingly however, the company (Mamiya) went on to design adaptors for film backs so that 120 roll film backs from Mamiya Press camera's could be used on the Polaroid 600SE. I currently have a mint 600SE with that 75mm lens.

The 75mm Mamiya/Polaroid lens requires a 75mm viewfinder, and the lack of the finder affects value for 600SE owners.

Thank you for the detailed explanation kuzano. I knew it was too good to be true. :(
