Hi guys, what´s up?
I´ve been spending the last week in Argentina on vacation. Came here with my M6 and a lot of rolls. While traveling and enjoying myself, I couldn´t help thinking about cameras.
Well, I couldn´t help myself and aquired a GAS attack in Buenos Aires and got a lovely Rolleiflex, which I intended to use for BW landcapes, in north Argentina and Bolivia.
BTW, film is still alive here and so are lovely old camera shops with good cameras and good prices.

The German lady I got involved with is a Xenotar 75 3.5 from the late 50´s. Very good condition and very good price.
I must admit that the entire thing is spontanous and quick (and you might say irresponsible). I never used a Rollei before and didn´t even do medium format at all.

I did a test roll which came OK except some problems that I´ll elaborate on in the sequel.

The more important thing is that I tried to load film today and didn´t succed. I did it as the manual says and as I did in the shop. Put the paper between the two reels, moved it to the start indication and closed the camera.
Later what happened is that I winded the lever freely, the frame number didn´t advance. It did´t even get to ¨1¨ and I kept winding it until the film ended
I tried to do it again and ruined another roll :bang:

Please see the attached pictures, what am I doing wrong? appologize for the low digi quality

I read the instructions again and can´t really understand what I did wrong. I think there´s a film detector that for some reason doesn´t work. The instuction says it is somewhere
I´m hoping that it´s a dumb user problem and that the camera is OK. For the price I paid I would´t mind fixing it on my expense, but I´d be really dissappointed for not using it in the following two weeks

OK, I´m in Cafayate now, very cool place. Going to Bolivia tomorrow and don´t have much internet connection (and of course no one around that can help me) so any help would be highly appreciated

Regarding the test roll - I burnt the last two frames, I think I didn´t close the roll properly. Can it be anything else?
The first 3 exposures were blank, but there should be a reason to that. Can´t remember, all was done with little time....
OK
help of any kind would be appreciated
thanks friends!

By looking at the pictures, I think you're loading the film correctly. I'd recommend you to take the camera to the following repairman. He's specialized in Leica, but he CLA'd my Rolleiflex and it's now like new. One of the best technicians in the country, I believe.

Victor Eduardo Nasello
Hipolito Yrigoyen 615 PB "A"
From 2pm-6pm

He's one or two blocks near Plaza de Mayo, in Capital Federal.
Good luck!

I does look like you've got the film between the rollers correctly, however you don't need to wind to the start mark with a Rolleiflex. The automatic film feeler should start the counter, but these can get gummed up or be out of calibration and not work correctly.

If you can't get to a technician you could try dropping just a little lighter fluid around the ends of the rollers and the tab that resets the counter. If you're lucky this might get the feeler system working. Don't waste any more film until you can get it working - re-roll a ruined film & use that to try it out.

Good luck.

thanks a lot!

thanks a lot!

i´ll try what you suggested.
in case that fails - what will happen if i don´t use the counter and just count the revolutions and shoot? i guess i´ll loose a few exposures, but will the film be tight enough for the picture to be sharp?
many thanks again, i´ll keep you updated
I love this place :)

I've had this problem before, too. I think you need to thread the film between the rollers, but look for a little lever on the inside near the take up spool and try to flip the lever and check the counter window and make sure the counter is set on '0' -- that way it is ready to go. I think that may make the gears work properly.

Anyway, you might check on this procedure.

Thanks!

Thanks!

thanks you all guys! you helped me alot! Yesterday morning I found the lever George talked about. the counter reset to 0 and all is OK!!!!
Currently in Uyuni Bolivia, going tomorrow to the salar with the camera and a few rollw.
you are welcome to see a result from the first test film here (can´t put it here since it´s too large). just look at the picture and download it an ignore the hebrew
