I have the camera (Yashica 44) and the film, but no take-up spool. Anyone in Oz able to help me out? Don't want to sacrifice a perfectly good roll just to get a spool. Anyway, I've read that the new plastic spools can be a bit too fragile as take-up devices and one should look for an old metal one.

Help! Please?

Ebay is your best bet. People sell old spools and reels there fairly often.

Thanks, Fallis, but altho the price is reasonable the postage is a killer! $4 for the spool and $12 for postage?!
I just hoped someone local might be able to help.

I see. Well, I think your next best bet would be to hit the local thrift shops and flea markets, and try to find a Kodak Starmite, Starflash, Brownie Reflex or other dirt cheap shoddy camera in 127 and take the spool out of it. Should cost about $5.

I have three - I'll send you an extra SS 127 reel I have - don't worry about postage or cost - I'm working on my Karma.

Anyways - we Yashica 44 peeps have to stick together.

PM me your mailing address and I'll try to have it out by next Monday

Fallis - all I could dredge up was plastic P&S cameras. As soon as I mentioned old cameras, one little old lady said 'like a Leica?' - apparently she had read an article that one went for $30,000 at auction. I had to laugh and explain what I was doing. I looked for all the old Kodaks as mostly they said '127' somewhere on the front or top. No joy. CuS has made a very generous offer!

See above.

What an absolute pleasure to see an offer like this in a day and age where greed seems to rule our everyday lives .

Well you inspired me to try and get out the old 127 folder I have and get the shutter fixed. A good bit of fun, but alas no shutter repair. The Kodak Ball Bearing Shutter beat my best attempt to get the whole thing open.

Thank you CuS. The 127 SS reel for a developing tank came in the mail yesterday! 1 week to the day. Thank you for your thoughtfullness. 2 other things I bought locally a week before that haven't turned up yet.
Your mail service is better than ours.
I still need a spool for the camera, tho. :-( If anyone has one, locally - please let me know.

Contact Peter (in WA) on <yashica@shenzhenangel.com>
He's a regular EBay seller of Yashica TLR's (mainly 124's and the like) but he's probably got what you're looking for.

Thanks

Thanks

Thanks for the tip. I haven't looked at the thread for a week or more so missed your reply. Sorry. I actually unrolled a spool and stored it away for ron.
A metal one would be beaut but these have a brass insert on the end and might last the distance. Still to use this 1st roll.

cheers
