I've use one Leica and 2 Canon dSLRs (used in tandem, a 17-40/4L on one and a 70-200/2.8L on the other). I've got a few other cameras, but they tend to gravitate towards the shelf as opposed to the street.

I now own 5 cameras (M6TTL, Rolleiflex 3.5E, Hasselblad 500 C/M, IIIf and Hexar RF) and use them all on more or less regular basis. All of them are different and while the Leica(s) are nice for travel (as is the Rolleiflex), the Hasselblad is better for photography at night with a tripod. I am not sure about keeping the Hexar RF, though ...

On a regular basis: Contax IIa and IIIa, and Bessa R and 2a, and occasionally a Kyocera Contax TVS for convenience. The Bessas are relatively newly acquired and I like their relaitve lightness and the viewfinders.

Raid, Oscroft : I guess both of your are really passionate about camera, lenses and know each of them perfectl. Film is not an option for me as I have little time and cost to develop in France is amazingly high in A4 sizes, so I don't get to use the old great cameras. And as for digital there are only two options available currently in RF, I focus on lenses more than cameras. It was very interesting to feel your passion about each camera, and hope you enjoy Thailand Oscroft with your bag full of 21 ?? cameras;)

Out of curiosity and a candid question : why do some of you use more than 10 cameras ?

For me, each one does certain things better than the others.

The Coolpix 990 lives mostly on a copy stand for digitizing documents, images to be posted to the web, and occasionally it comes off to photograph stuff that I sell online.

Canon New F-1--birds and low light.

Voigtlander Perkeo II--the pocket 'blad--it goes anywhere in my jacket pocket or briefcase.

Bronica S2a--mostly travel and more dynamic studio portraits where I need strobe sync and want to use an SLR. I've got a fairly extensive kit with lenses from 40-500mm and lots of accessories, but I'm using it less than I used to, compared to my view cameras. I've considered selling it, but prices on medium format gear are so depressed these days, it's not worth the trouble.

Linhof Tech V23b--I think this one will eventually take the place of the Bronica as a travel camera.

Linhof Tech V 4x5"--The camera I use most, on a tripod as a view camera, handheld as a press camera. I use it for travel when I know I'll have more time for photography, particularly if I think conditions will be too windy to bring the 8x10" Gowland (which turns into a box kite in the wind).

5x7" Press Graflex--Great available light portrait camera that makes negs big enough to contact print. It's an SLR with rack and pinion focusing, so it focuses very quickly.

8x10" Gowland PocketView--Ultralight 8x10" camera for landscapes and architecture. I'm doing more albumen prints lately, so the 8x10" and larger cameras are getting out more to produce big negs for contact printing.

8x10" Sinar P--Ultra precise 8x10" camera for the studio. I use it for still life and portraits. I've also got a sliding 4x5" back, which is handy for portraits.

7x17" Korona--For panoramas to be contact printed. It's not such a cumbersome format, and it lends itself to certain kinds of landscape. I'd also like to try full length portraits sometime with this.

11x14" American Optical--Fairly light for a camera of this format--about 15 lbs. I use it for landscapes and architecture and some portraits, particularly when I want a big contact printable neg, either for albumen or regular silver printing.

-Nikon FG one for colour, one for BW each with a different lens (sometimes a scond FM -> doing portraits inside one with 35 - 50 - 85.)

Kiev 5 + J11 and J9
Killercombo!

Street (one camera):
Nikon FM
Bessa R
IIIS

Having panicked while packing:
5 cameras!

I use only one camera now, though at a certain point in time, I was carrying two at the same time. That was an Olympus OM SLR and a Minolta TC-1 28mm P&S. But this was the exception: overall, I've relied on only one camera. The main reason is that this keeps things simple for me. I've also reduced the number of lenses I carry around to just 1 for the same reason. I noticed how lens swapping got in the way of just enjoying where I was, so I left everything at home and went to zen mode :)

I expect the digital camera I've just ordered will replace everything else, just like the camera before replaced everything before that etc.

I've sold about 25% of my camera gear, but I'm seriously considering selling everything except the Zorki+Summitar. I have some nostalgia about the OM system, particularly the OM-3 body and the 90/f2 lens, but I will never use it again. Might as well take the cash and live happily ever after. I might end up doing the same with the Zorki if I notice I"m not using it anymore.

Peter.

I bought a M5 and it became my favorite one for the moment. Just a joy to use and the lightmeter works great, quick in chaning time. Just llike the feeling.

Hehe, thanks - maybe I'll manage to narrow it down a bit before I go :D

Hmmm... I've got more than I often use. Still, I use more than 10 regularly.

Very often:
Canon EOS 40D
Canon EOS 350D
FED 3b
Olympus 35RC

Often:
Kodak DX7440
Minolta Hi-Matic F
Zenit EM
Leica C2
Canon EOS 500
Canon EF-M

Still regularly:
Fuji 4800z
Lumix FZ20
Yashica-24
Nikon EM
Ricoh Kr-10x
and some others...

I use:
Three manual focus/manual exposure 35mm SLRs
Two auto focus/auto exposure 35mm SLRs
Four 35mm rangefinders
One digital SLR
One compact digital camera
Two medium format rangefinders
Two underwater 35mm cameras
Four flat film plane 4x5 inch sheet film pinhole cameras
Four curved film plane 4x5 inch sheet film pinhole cameras
One flat film plane 8x10 inch sheet film pinhole cameras

I ticked 3-5 and then checked the poll result to discover that this seems to represent the majority!

Hexar RF
Zeiss Ikon
M8
Bronica RF645
Canon A620

There are cameras that I drag out of the cupboard every now and then to run a film through ... I don't really regard that as using a camera though ... it's more like making sure it still works! Strangely my M2, once my favourite, seems to have slipped to this status!

Aside from different formats I don't really see what you can do with fifteen cameras that you cant do with five or so!

Depending on the situation, I use a DSLR, RF, TLR, or Compact P&S. I guess you could also count the camera-phone, but I don't consider it a real camera since it's crap and I only use it when there are no other options.

Cameras not used (or rarely used):
Film AF SLR (feels too much like the DSLR except less enjoyable)
Film MF SLR (decent, but not as fun as the RF)
Fixed-lens RF (not much point when the Bessa is better in every way)
MF Folder (using this is mostly a waste of film due to the condition)

Holy Socks, Bob: truly, truly, I say that you have some sweet cameras! With the MP3, you have the wild card in camera body debates about coolness ;) Don't slay us with jealousy further and inform us it is the black variant!

Um, *Gulp* you mean black like this?

Oh, and I forgot this one, currently on the back burner as I've been finishing a project before the leaves and/or bugs are out in full force...

I have more than 2, but when I go out I keep 2 in the bag. One has B&W (BW400CN) and the other Color Slide, Usually Velvia 50 or 100. Most of the time now, it's the M7 .85 with the Color and an M4-P with the B&W.

Ideally I would use one camera body for every lens I feel like I need to carry. Sometimes that is practical, sometimes that isn't. Sometimes that means just one zoom (like when I used to shoot sports), or sometimes that means just a single camera/lens combo.

Thats like asking me how many pairs of pants I have!!!!???!!! I lost track long ago!!!!!!
Being a fulltime pro for a good chung of my life, now just parttime, but considering going back- maybe.. On any perticular month I will use 15 to 20 different cameras from rangefinders to 6x9 cm MF not mention my panaramic camerras and underwater cameras and those are the cameras I just use for work.... I have a whole other set of cameras I use for play. of course sometimes I mix play with work.... so now you maybe are getting the picture.... Michael
