As you can see my industar is weirdly crooked. When attached to body it bents to left at close focus and straightens at infinity. Could the quality control really be this poor or is this some kind of feature. At least the seals seem to be unbroken.
I'd appreciate it if any of you had any info to share about this.

Does the focus work properly?
I've seen lenses where the aperture ring goes on a bit crooked, but the optics are in straight.
The optics module looks crooked on this one! Try a roll, if it looks sharp corner-to-corner, use it. If not, get a new one.

i am told that they made many like that !
It's cheaper to buy another - or a whole camera , rather that pay to fix it .
Good luck ,

The focus does work but at close focus the rear ring operating the cam is not perfectly straight. For this reason the rangefinder is not accurate with this lens.

I picked up my Industar 61 recently by the lens barrel when it was on an M6. I found that it has a slight movement at it's base . It can be wiggled a little while it is on the camera. I don't know if this could be your situation also. Is there an easy way to secure this? I guess I'll stick with my J8.

I recently picked up a J8 which has the same wiggling problem.
Jason.
I know why they wiggle- and do not know an easy way to fix it. Best I could come up with is slapping heavy grease in under the mount. Not a good fix, I used that optics module for a conversion to S-Mount.

Could some kind of a spacer be machined to fill the gap?

They do this when the original grease dries up. I have heard somewhere that the design utilised grease to take up the play in the mount. Re-lubing cures it.I recently picked up a J8 which has the same wiggling problem.

Thanks for the info. I'll try to get it re-lubed.

Time to own up: it's really the rare Industar-61 LDT Tilt lens, of which less than 200 were made by virgin badgers on moonless nights in a nuclear power station in Magnitogorsk, and you paid $20.000 to Photo Arsenal for it, did you?As you can see my industar is weirdly crooked.

Industar 61 are nothing more than rings around the optical module. Two of them have the focus helicoid, others are simply fitted together each with three screws. There are no special shaping in the rings to keep them in the right position, this work is done by the screws. Probably it is enough to loose slightly the screws and move the rings in the right position to solve that problem. If it is not enough, no fear, Industar 61 are very easy to dismount and remount.
Yours seems to have something trapped in the narrow space between the M39 ring and the focus ring. This is the most critical point of this lens: dismount the back ring (the one with the three red waxed screws), take the M39 ring and clean everything carefully. When you remount it, it could be necessary to make some shimming to keep the space under it at minimum, but as it is a moving parts, i suggest to use metal sheets.
The optimal would be to use a carefully shaped calibrated brass shims.

.....or next time, buy one from Yuri and avoid these kinds of problem. Pay a little more and get NO headaches.
