Is this the 3rd version as it doesn't have the little aperture lever seen on version 2? I've looked on the Camera Quest website but the serial number does not match up with Stephen's information. According to his site the number would make it a version 2.

Yes, this is an early v3. In any case v2 and v3 have the same optics. Check here:

Thanks Roland, that's a great resource. Never come across it before. Can this one take the rectangular hood? I just won the auction, by the way and ok it's a bit knocked about but the description claims the glass is fine and it's working which is the important part. Even with a CLA I think it's a good price!

Congrats, Nigel ! It's a great lens, and a really good price.
You can fit the rectangular hood (of the v4) but will have to modify it (take a notch off). If you search RFF you will find more information.
Maybe better to use either 12585 or 12504. The lens came with 12504 originally, but it's an expensive hood these days. 12585 is more common.
Best,
Roland.

I was watching that one myself. Congratulations on the purchase. I'm a big fan of "user" gear. Hope that one works out well for you.

The serial number range given in the Hove pocket Leica Guide is from 2307451 to 2974250. Your lens is within this range. Good call, Nigel!

I've tried 12526 hood (35/2 ASPH, 28/2.8 ASPH) on 35/2 v3 and it fits without cutting anything.
