Hi,

I see Adorama updated Leica pricelist. Summilux 50mm ASPH - $3,595 ($3,295 before, and still out of stock). When this lens cost $2,600 I thought it's too expensive. Summilux 35mm ASPH - $4,195 ($3,900 before).
I think B&H will update the pricelist soon, but still have some of them in stock for old price.

Happy shopping.

Kris.

What's happening? Is this just garden variety dollar devaluation, or spiking demand driven by M8 popularity?

And more importantly, will prices ever come down?

Yes the prices will come down when the economy finally comes crashing down due to the oil shock. Unfortunately not many of us will have any money then :)

Dear American folks,

You may not feel it in its full intensity at your dollar home, but the continuous fall of the dollar is shaking the world to its bones. Be ready that the effect will fire back beyond Adorama pricing list.

Best,
Ruben

Ruben, you should appreciate more than most people the value of some gold coins and diamonds sewn into a hem and carried across hostile borders.

I agree with others that the USA will experience an economic downfall, even though some people here may get some stupid ideas to get the economy "straigtened out" by take overs.

Ha ha. Just print some more money, triple the tax on those greedy oil companies and everything will be swell. Hand out $10,000 "stimulus checks" every week.

Leica increased their prices July 1, as they do almost every year. I believe the M8 was not increased. A Leica wide I bought just two years ago has gone up by 73% in that time. A lot of that is definitely due to the dollar.

We are losing wealth as Americans. This is a fact that we have to deal with. Some people are wealthy, and they may not feel the same impact as others. Photography may become an expensive hobby for people with a limited income base.

I am content with my vintage quality lenses. They give me joy in photography at a cost that I can afford. Surprisingly, they turned out to be a good investment too.

The America economy goes thru a boom-bust cycle every twelve years or so. Simply that he could have appointed Condoleeza Rice and Alberto Gonzales to pre-imminent positions when there are so many more capable experts tells it all. Could the results been any different?

Our only hope is that Pres Obama move expeditiously enough to shore up this mess.

oh, yes, the price list -- I recall not long ago the 35 Summilux ASPH was going for $2700. Suspecting prices would go up again soon, I grabbed a virtually new one (ie, mint/mint) for $2150 six months ago.

This time it is not going to be a typical boom or bust cycle. Take my word for it, Buster Brown...

....and this is free pre-imminent advice.

Well I've seen the doom and gloom before, and we always come back. When the doomsters start predicting the end of the world that's the time to start accumulating assets at low prices. I predict $50 a barrel oil within a year.
