My M7 arrived yesterday. I have to say, so far so good. I really like the black chrome. If you think you might like that finish, don't listen to all the naysayers.
It's pretty much what I expected and think I will be very pleased with it. I'll probably keep my M6. It's nice to have a backup or a body that I can use for a different film.
The real problem is this: I've spent a fair amount of money on a terribly old fashioned camera system which shoots film (obviously also obsolete) that just happens to have one of the best 35mm lens in existence - the 50mm Summilux ASPH. It'd be a shame not to use it. I see one in my (distant) future. haha. I'd have no qualms getting rid of my 50 summicron for the ASPH.
In the meantime, I'm having a lot of fun with a Nikkor 50 1.4 that was considerably cheaper than the M7 or a ASPH lux.

My M5s need red dots!

I'm sorry, Tim, but a lot of people in this board will resent that remark of yours about these cameras and film. I'm sure you meant it as an ironic aside.
Other than that, after reading your post twice, I don't understand the point you apparently want to make. I may be getting obsolete myself...
Take care!

Haha. Yeah, it was supposed to be a bit sarcastic. Most of the photographic community thinks manual focus cameras, rangefinders, film, etc to be pretty old tech and not worth their time. I and a lot of other people here still love film and rangefinders and manual focus. Why else would I have just bought an M7?
There was no real point other than to say I got a new camera and am pretty happy with it, and am now feeling the urge to get 50 ASPH lux.
A lot of people always seem to ask about the M7, is it worth it, what about the black chrome, etc. I just wanted to say that I like it and if you think it might be a good fit, it probably will be.

Congratulations Tim on your M7.
Have fun and hope you can show us some pictures of your "terribly old fashioned camera system."

i always fear that the plastic battery cap might get lost easily. really, that little cheapo plastic battery cap (and its locking system) is the cheapest one i have seen from any brands.

Well, Tim, it's time to go out and put that obsolescent camera to work.
Congratulations on the purchase!

The best camera is one that still works!

One roll has already been run through it. I was printing in the darkroom for most of yesterday too
Today I hope to burn through a couple rolls.

Yep, I know what you mean about old technology. I have several film cameras in various formats and a new M6 on the way.
Happy shooting with your M7.

It's a great camera! And I think you'll find it even more quiet than your M6. Enjoy your new toy!

an M6 is old technology!...
...an M7 is state of the art...after all, it does have Aperture Priority!

Haha. Yeah I actually am really impressed with how quiet it is. Noticeably more so than the M6.

Discovering RF
My M7 landed today.
Reading manual as we speak to make sure i load film correctly.
First impressions? love the black. Second impressions: with my friend's 35 cron ASPH - man...this thing is dense/heavy! way heavier than i expected.

We're all light!
As the owner of two examples of what is sometimes referred to as the "other" M7 (Konica Hexar RF...no fistfights about this, folks!), I say Congratulations, and advise you to just buy film, go forth and photograph. That's really all that matters in the end.

I really considered getting a Hexar RF but the service issues kind of scared me... It looks like a great camera and I know you've really enjoyed yours.
I need to lay off the buying of film for a little bit. I have no more room in my freezer

Late congrats on the new M7! I just scored a near mint M7 and a CL yesterday to join my M8 and M6TTL - belated b-day presents to myself...
Looking forward to testing them out this weekend... Hoping that all is good with them

Thanks. I think you'll love the M7, though you already have some of the features on the M8.
The M7 is such a great camera. For me, it adds just the right things to the M6... and it's super quiet.

Thanks Tim, yeah I wanted something that was closer to my M8 in operation. Looking forward to shooting more film now.
Was torn about pulling the trigger here for both the M7 and the CL with the 40/2 but my shop made a deal that I could not refuse! ROFL They joked around that I need to get an M5 now; in order to complete my Leica "set" - have an M3DS (non-working at this point), a M4, the M6TTL LHSA, and now these two. My insurance agent loves me!
The more I use my Leica gear, the closer I come to dumping my Nikon DSLR kit... Going to attach the Lens Carrier M to the M7 if it tests out OK...
